Michael LaVar Smith's Obituary
Our beautiful husband, daddy, grandpa, brother, son and loving friend passed away peacefully in his home, in the arms of his family on Dec. 26, 2011. Mike lived his life as a passionate musician, whose music touched the souls of all. His amazing courage and strength are an eternal gift he leaves behind to those he loves. He taught us to sing and dance from the heart. He has been in many bands, has made several albums, and has been on multiple stages. He was a drummer at heart, but could play several instruments and had a beautiful singing voice. He loved being in the studio making music and just gathering with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Patty, three daughters, Jen (Rod) Conner, Heidi (Ed) Rice, Miki (Steve) Stephens, nine grandchildren, his brother Rick Smith, sister Karen (Ron) Powell, stepmother Rosalye Smith, as well as a loving extended family, and “Jade” and “Rex”, his loyal dogs. Mike is preceded in death by his father, LaVar Smith and mother, Patricia Smith. In celebration of his beautiful life, a service will be held at Mountain Vista United Methodist Church, located at 8931 S. 3200 W. in West Jordan, UT. at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30th, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted at any Granite Credit Union in the name of Patty Baptista. Our family would like to extend our many thanks for the love and support that was given to Mike through his journey with cancer. Your thoughts and prayers carried us through each day with him, and will never be forgotten.
