Michele Z Salamanikas' Obituary
On Monday, February 5, 2024, Michele Z. Salamanikas, beloved wife, momma, and grandma, passed away with family by her side, at the age of sixty-two. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dennis “Butch” Salamanikas; children: Kaily (Heather), Troy, Joey, Crystal (Dustin), Stephanie (Kassius), and Danielle (Adam); her seven grandchildren with one on the way; as well as countless others that considered her a mother/grandma figure, sister, aunt, and friend.
Michele was born in Salt Lake City, UT to Wally and LuElla Powell on May 8, 1961. She was the youngest of ten children and had numerous foster siblings throughout her mother’s 45 years with the foster care system.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wally and Luella, and her brother Earl.
Michele’s most cherished title was “grandma,” and she loved spending time with her “grand-babies.” She was loved by many for her sweet and caring soul, big smile, and infectious laugh. Her compassionate heart always led her to take so many under her wing, both people and animals alike. She loved gardening, pulling weeds, picking the fruits and veggies, and tending to her flowers. She adored her many yappy, needy pups and house plants. She was an avid rock collector who never missed an opportunity to comb through the dirt and soil wherever she traveled. She loved camping, fishing, playing cards, her Gameboy, and drinking coffee.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 10th at Oasis Vineyard Church, 1750 West (4160 So) Carriage Square at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend, the family will be wearing green or flannel to honor Michele. No need to dress up, our momma would want everyone to be comfortable.
If you would like to help us honor Michele’s memory and help Butch rebuild, the family has set up a GoFundMe to help offset the costs of her medical and funeral expenses.
