Michelle Micki Olmsted's Obituary
Obituary Michelle “Micki” Olmsted
Micki (Michelle J.) Olmsted passed on to her next life on the early morning of September 7, 2017. Micki was born November 16, 1969 in Nampa Idaho to Donovan and Marjorie Olmsted. Since the day of her earthly arrival, she was cherished by her older siblings, Gary and Sherri Olmsted. When Micki was three years old she moved with her family to Riverside, California, where she resided until 1974, at which time she returned with her mother (with whom she was very close) back to Nampa, Idaho..
In 1987, Micki married Dallas Richard (Rick) Bennett, they later divorced in 1992. In 1989 Micki became ill with a debilitating condition that she courageously fought until her passing. During her twenty eight year struggle with this illness, Micki maintained her amazingly quick wit, her “one of a kind” sense of humor, and her classic and unforgettable one liners. If ever she was unimpressed with something you said or did, you were sure to be shot with “the look” that only Micki could deliver.
In 1999, Micki moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she could live close to Sherri. She and Sherri shared an extremely close bond. Mick met her fifteen-yearlong companion, Terry Long, in 2002. Although Terry endures a condition that makes it difficult for him to walk, the two of them have gone on outings together multiple times a week for years. She, in her power wheelchair and he, on foot. They would board the city bus to visit many locales including fast food joints, Starbucks coffee and trips to the dollar store where Micki loved to buy treasures to gift others with. Micki loved playing games on her laptop (thank you Cesar and Anna Camara), coloring posters as gifts, drinking coffee, spending time outdoors and was an avid Pepsi fan. Micki enjoyed Sunday dinners and Scrabble games with friends/family Bev Labrum and Val Shuey. She shared the love of Lynard Skynard’s music with her brother; in fact she loved anything and everything her brother did. Micki had a devout belief in Christ and prayed every day for those she cared for. Micki deeply and unconditionally loved her family.
Mick was certainly one of a kind, she enjoyed making people laugh. She could also speak her mind quite clearly if so inclined. Micki endured what most could not, and did so with grit and grace.
Today Micki is free of all illness and pain, free to run, jump and play. Fly free and be filled with joy sweet girl, and never forget your brother and sister love you every second and look forward to the day we join you there.
Micki is survived by her brother Gary Olmsted (Lori Barnes), Nampa Idaho; sister Sherri Olmsted (Monique Mackay) Salt Lake City, Utah; boyfriend Terry Long; friends/family Bev Labrum and Val Shuey, Aunt and Uncle Larry and Beth Olmsted, Aunt Dorothy Bowen and many cousins. Preceded in death by parents Donovan and Marjorie Olmsted; paternal grandparents Lyle and Myrt Olmsted; maternal grandparents Virgil and Rose Scurlock; Aunt and Uncle Dick and Burdette King.
The family would like to thank Avalon Valley Care Center for your many years of care for Micki. Thank you to Micki’s Harmony Hospice team, you are angels that went above and beyond, we are forever grateful to all of you.
Micki will be laid to rest on September 12, 2017 in Caldwell, Idaho. A celebration of life in Salt Lake City to be announced at a later time.
