Mildred "Jacque" Altemus' Obituary
Mildred “Jacque” Altemus passed away, though reluctantly, at the age of 94 on Friday, December 2, 2022. She was born January 9, 1928, to Glenn L. and Adeline Hastings in Loch Haven, Pennsylvania. She was the eldest of four children: Harriet, Glenn, and MaryLou Hastings. She grew up in Johnstown, PA where she learned to dance, ice skate, love, and lead. Jacque loved All God’s Creatures – especially cats, birds, and a BIG white dog named Happy. She met the first love of her adult life at the tender age of 18, William L. (Bill) Campbell (D). The two were married, which, of course, led to – WOW, what a Family! The two bore five very lively children, three daughters and two sons: Leslie Paulette, Adalyn Gail, William Jacques, Jeffrey Robert, and Rebecca Lynn – together – more popularly known as The Campbell Kids.
Jacque was an optimist and a fighter. She never gave up on marriage or family. She married a second, Kenneth Colbaugh – and third time Harry Altemus (D), of Johnstown, PA. She remained very close to all her kids – wherever they roamed: Pennsylvania, Maryland, California, Nevada, Utah.
Mother was truly blessed. She was “nearly recruited” by Gene Kelly/Fred Astaire in her teens -- a gifted professional-caliber ballet and tap dancer. She was an excellent portrait artist. She loved music and played the piano like a real entertainer, a pro (by ear). She loved her kids. She was a great cook! She will be greatly missed by her many Friends and extensive Family – all over the country. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her youngest son, Jeffrey. She is survived by her son, Jack, and three daughters, Leslie, Gail, and Rebecca -- 11 grandchildren and 7 (known) great-grandchildren.
We love you, Mom. We will see you again soon. Keep a light on for us!
Cremation by Premier Funeral Services, Salt Lake City.
Family Services to be planned and announced at a future date.
