Morgan Lewis Stringam's Obituary
Morgan Lewis Stringam passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2022, at his home in North Salt Lake, Utah. Morgan was born on the 29th of November 1942 in Rosemary, Alberta, Canada. He was the fourth of five children born to George Owen Stringam and Alice Lucille Rice. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Myrna Dunbar, and their six children: Renee of Timberlake, North Carolina; Marlon of Raymond, Alberta, Canada; Lynette (Robert Freeze) of North Salt Lake, Utah; Sarah (Richard Murray) of Bountiful, Utah, MaryBeth of Tempe, Arizona; Philip of North Salt Lake Utah; and 18 beloved grandchildren.
Morgan had a strong testimony and was always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He first met Myrna Dunbar serving as a Junior Home-teaching companion when he was only 17 years old in Rosemary. From 1963 to 1965 Morgan served as a full-time missionary in the California Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints presided over by President Howard B. Anderson. Upon returning from his mission, he attended Brigham Young University. He married Myrna Dunbar on September 7th, 1967. It was at BYU where he was first introduced to computers, and this sparked a life-long love of computer technology and software. Upon completion of his degree in Agricultural Economics in 1969, he returned to Canada to become a dry land grain farmer and raise his family. Morgan served as a Bishop at the age of 32 years old. He served in this capacity for 7 and ½ years. He was also very active as a Boy Scout Leader throughout his life. A significant achievement of having four of his boys receive the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award all at the same time was covered by the Calgary Harold Newspaper.
For many years Morgan was involved in genealogy, name extraction and indexing. He was very skilled with computers and software engineering. He wrote a program to facilitate genealogical work while living in the Raymond, Alberta, Canada Stake. In 1997 he returned to Utah; this is where his pioneer ancestors had originated from. He utilized his computer skills and began working as a software engineer for ACS; they processed invoice billing for UPS, and he was a key contributor. He retired for a few years during which he and Myrna assisted in caring for aging family members in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. After their time in Kamloops, they returned to their home in Utah in 2015 and Morgan was re-hired by his previous employer (now Conduent) to continue programming work on the UPS account. During this time, he also served as an Ordinance Worker in the Bountiful, Utah Temple up until the Temple temporarily closed due to the Covid19 pandemic.
Morgan loved to work, and he was an extremely hard worker; countless times he could be found working from early in the morning to well into the night, whether on the farm or at his desk working on software. He was tremendously talented, especially with computers, software, and mechanical items. Morgan worked right up until the time of his passing at 79+ years of age.
Morgan will be fondly remembered by all that knew him as a man of great integrity that made the world a better place by quietly serving others with no thought of praise or acknowledgement. In small and kindly ways, he touched many lives. He was a very modest person who quietly delighted in his family. He always took such good care of all of us. He is sorely missed, but we take comfort in knowing that families are eternal, and that we can be together with him forever.
Morgan will be cremated. A memorial service to be announced later. The family would like to thank Applegate Hospice for their compassionate service to Morgan.
