Morris "Skip"George Cline's Obituary
Morris “Skip” George Cline
1931-2017
Our beloved husband and father passed away in Springville, Utah on the 16th of December 2017 after a struggle with cancer. He was born August 10th, 1931 to Elizabeth and George Cline in Los Angeles, California. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp in the 1950s, and later served a 2 ½ year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in the Samoan Islands. He loved to wear his Lava-lava. He got his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, his Master’s degree from Brigham Young University (BYU), and his PhD from the University of Michigan. He was a professor at The Ohio State University from 1968 to 2011. He studied Plant Physiology.
Skip met Sharon Francom at BYU, and married her September 17th 1959, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 58 years. They raised six children who all served missions for the LDS church. In 2012, he and Sharon served a family history mission at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, which they continued for three more years at BYU part time. He also served for nine years as a Bishop.
Skip loved the outdoors. He worked as a boy scout camp counselor, a forest ranger and logger earlier in life. He rarely wore shoes until the age of 13. He always had big gardens in his yard and raised lots of fruits and vegetables.
He greatly loved his family and spent endless hours writing letters to uplift and strengthen. He was a rock of stability to all who knew him. His greatest desire was to serve the Lord. He will be greatly missed!
He is survived by his wife Sharon, sister Lark Hornbeck; six children, Colleen (Kelly) Corbridge, Michael (Annmarie) Cline, Alan (Allison) Cline, John Cline, Nathan (Hyla) Cline, Susan (Vince) Stroud, 18 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Skip was preceded in death by his parents George Cline and Elizabeth Showalter Cline, his sister Robin Cline, and his brother Victor Cline.
