Nancy "Joan" Baxter's Obituary
Nancy Joan Allen Baxter returned home to her Heavenly Father peacefully on November 14th, 2022 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was welcomed by those that preceded her in death including her parents, Clifford and Iris Allen, and siblings: Carl, Lynn and William Allen.
Joan was born on Utah's pioneer day, July 24, 1936 in Salt Lake to Clifford Allen and Iris Rasmussen. Her dad hoped to name her "Utahna" in honor of the day, they went with Nancy Joan instead. Many were blessed throughout her life by her amazing cooking and sewing abilities. She handmade wedding dresses, bags, clothing, and countless costumes. She made homemade costume boxes for each of her grandchildren's 3rd birthday. She was the heart of her family's business, the Salt Lake Costume Company, and kept it running for many years. Joan enjoyed singing in her choir group where she river rafted and met many lifelong friends, including her beloved husband, James "Jim" Baxter. The two were married on October 4, 1962 in the Logan, Utah temple. They shared a deep love and devotion that served as an example for many. They were blessed with two children, Daneen and Richard. They enjoyed camping as a family and have many fond memories in their trailer with family and friends. They especially loved their yearly camping trip to Swiss Days. Jim and Joanie loved the travel they got to do together including cruises, a 6 week road trip to Alaska, and a trip to Japan.
Joan was strong-willed, determined, and very generous throughout her life. She persevered through many medical challenges while also managing to serve others with the help of her husband. Towards the end of her life she loved sewing for her grandkids, coloring, and doing family history.
She is survived by her loving husband James Baxter; her children Daneen James (Dana) and Richard Baxter (Christy); her siblings, Terry Allen (Lola) and Connie Drysdale; her grandchildren, McKenzie Baxter, Stephen Baxter, Megan Robertson (Rick), Allison Baxter, Sarah Baxter and Madison James; as well as her great granddaugther, Lucy Robertson.
Many thanks to friends, neighbors, and others that have taken care of her in the last few years.
