Nancy Patricia Bingham Olson's Obituary
Nancy Patricia Bingham Olson, our beloved mom, grandma, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, at the age of 91. Nancy was born to Walter Edward Bingham and Lillian Rose Jespersen on Sept 7, 1934. Nancy was number 10 of 11 children. While farming on the land now known as Ogden Airport, eminent domain forced them to relocate to Roy when Nancy was 6 years old. There in Roy her family owned a 50-acre farm where they grew delicious, mouthwatering watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes and other such produce to sell to locals and stores, to support their large family. Nancy’s father Ed was known as the ‘Watermelon\Cantaloupe King’. She often reminisced about the hard work it took, from all the family, to manage the farm as they hauled watermelon and hoed acres of weeds to help her father and mother, she endearingly called daddy and momma. The Bingham’s were a musical family consisting of mother, father, 7 sisters and 4 brothers who all sang with beautiful harmonies that were heavenly. They were labeled the “singingest” family, by the local newspaper, and were even invited by the Prophet David O McKay, a friend of Ed’s, to sing for he and his wife’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Nancy had a beautiful alto voice and could harmonize with anyone. She spent her life involved in musical pursuits. She had fond memories of singing with her parents, brothers and sisters around the dining table growing up, and at church meetings and events, including around the campfire at their annual camping trip to Mirror Lake.
Nancy graduated from the old Weber High on 12th and Washington, then went on to become Miss Roy and later participated in the Miss Utah beauty contest. Nancy often reflected on how fun and exciting those times were and how much she learned from those experiences.
Nancy married LaClead Olson on June 1, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to California while LaClead finished his military service. They later moved back to Utah and bought their first home on 36th Street, in Ogden. Nancy enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family, always keeping a neat, orderly home, and fixing delicious meals. She had a green thumb and enjoyed plants and beautiful flowers. Nancy also volunteered at McKay Dee Hospital for 45 years, serving as president of the Volunteer Auxiliary at one point. Nancy loved people and valued her many friendships and family associations throughout her life. Mom also loved her cat Lilly, named after her mom, who brought her much comfort and companionship after losing her husband.
Nancy has one sister still living, Sandy Brown of St. George, and sister-in-law Billie Scheel of Wisconsin. LaClead passed away on May 6, 2019. LaClead and Nancy’s posterity consists of 3 children Mark, Julie, Melanie (Cecil), 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 11:30 am at the LDS Church located at 787 E. 1700 N. in North Ogden, with a viewing prior to the service from 10 – 11am. Internment in the Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
The family wishes to express special appreciation to Aspire Hospice staff Hannah and Norma, and Spring Gardens caregivers for their patient, loving care and support of our wonderful mom and grandma.
