Nellie Rosella Myatt's Obituary
Nellie Rosella Myatt (59) passed away 26 August 2025 in Provo, Utah, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously battling cancer for many years.
Nellie was born on 12 April 1966 in Sacramento, California. She was the second of four children. Her early years were spent in Davis, California. Then, her family spent a school year in Indiana, another school year in Alaska, two years in San Jose, California, then in 1978 the family settled outside of Gilroy, California, where Nellie and her siblings raised goats and rabbits, and rode horses.
Nellie was an athlete. She played volleyball and basketball at Gilroy High School, and volleyball at Gavilan College.
She served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1990-91 in Detroit, Michigan.
In early 1995 she moved to Orem, Utah, where she lived until her death.
Nellie was a fiercely dedicated mother to her three talented children. She gave them every opportunity she could to help them pursue their interests, driving them to practices, games, lessons, and performances as they participated in hockey, fencing, cheer, and opera.
She valued education and completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Utah Valley University in biotechnology.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Provo Temple for around six years before she became too ill to continue.
Nellie exhibited an indomitable zest for life. She pursued her own growth by playing hockey, doing CrossFit, learning to hunt, learning to sew theater costumes and tailor-made gowns, and studying other wide-ranging interests.
Nellie is survived by her parents, Rodney and Joyce Myatt, her children, Jacob (Cody Alexis) Jones, Caleb (Maddie) Jones, and Lily (James) Peterson, by her grandchildren, Gladys, Achilles, and Artemis, and by her siblings, Cherise (Blaine) Elliott, Bonnie (Kevin) Scheib, and Kyrod (Jynelle) Myatt.
Her legacy of love, faith, and resilience will be cherished by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 6 September 2025, at the LDS chapel at 80 West 900 South, Orem, Utah at 11:00 am. Visitation with the family will be from 9:45-10:45 am at the same location. Interment will be at the Orem cemetery.
