Patricia Anne Farthing Strange's Obituary
Patricia Anne Farthing Strange
80 years old
Patricia Anne Farthing Strange of Taylorsville, Utah passed away on the morning of Friday February 27, 2026 at Ivybrook Assisted Living. She was surrounded by her children, photos of the friends she collected over the years, and the music of her beloved Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
She was born on January 30, 1946 in Danville, Virginia to Clyde Holland Farthing and Virginia Calvin Oakes Farthing. She graduated from Dan River High School in 1964 before going on to become a mother, an active church-goer, a substitute teacher who had to explain the facts of life to an entire classroom full of her children’s friends, and a proud school lunch lady who cared deeply for each and every student she fed.
Patricia was a cancer survivor who went on to serve two missions with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was a dream come true for her to be able to work in the Family History Center, and so she moved from Virginia to Utah where she could continue to pursue her passion for genealogy and live closer to some of her dearest friends.
She is survived by her children, Keith Strange, Nancy Strange, Cynthia Stubits, William Strange, and Daniel Strange and by her many beloved grandchildren and stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Linda Farthing, and her younger brother Jerry Farthing.
Per Patricia’s wishes, no public service will be held. You may wish to savor a dark chocolate truffle in her honor, as she firmly believed they were the best medicine available to her in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Halifax County Cancer Association (https://hccahope.org/). The HCCA was overwhelmingly generous with their time, supplies, knowledge, and financial support during Patricia’s own (successful!) battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
