Patrick Alan Comerford's Obituary
Patrick Alan Comerford
Sitting on a knoll by the Jordan River on an absolutely gorgeous day, Patrick Alan Comerford passed away in the arms of his beloved wife, Tiffany. This cherished husband, father, son, uncle, coach, and friend returned home to his Heavenly Parents on June 21, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Patrick was born on December 11, 1978, in Hayes, Kansas, to John Vincent Comerford and Jeanie Ann Slaughter Comerford. During his formative years, Patrick lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, attending Alta High School and Utah State University – an Aggie for life. He excelled in many subjects and could talk about any topic extensively. He was just plain smart and bequeathed this gift to his children.
Patrick and Tiffany Thompson met at a softball game and quickly fell in love. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 24, 2009. Eight years later, a delightful and smart little daughter, Jane, joined the family. Patrick enjoyed fatherhood so much that he wondered why they had waited so long. Patrick described parenthood as the best thing they had ever done.
Jane has been a “mini adult” since birth. She is decisive and thoughtful. How she will miss her adoring father. Later a son, Jackson, joined the family. Jackson is spunky, happy, and destined to be a future athlete like his daddy. (When he stops talking, they know he is finally asleep.)
Patrick loved sports of all kinds. He especially excelled at basketball, baseball, and golf. It didn’t matter if he was watching, playing, or coaching – athletics brought joy to his life. He showed up at the gym every Wednesday to play basketball, even when struggling with cancer treatments. Coaching Jane’s team was such a delight. He loved spending time with Jane and her friends and patiently taught them to play the game of soccer.
Patrick loved his family and did everything he could to help them feel treasured and cared for. He made everyone feel important. Patrick endeavored daily to teach his children to love others, to be kind and generous, and to take a breath before they react. He was extraordinarily aware of the feelings of others until the day he died. He loved giving to others even when he did not have the means to give. Patrick adored his wife. He would often tell Tiffany how beautiful she looked and tell his children, “Jane, Jackson, look how beautiful your mom is.”
Patrick is survived by his loving and courageous wife, Tiffany, his treasured children, Jane and Jackson, and his mother, Jeanie Comerford. Patrick is also survived by his brother Chris (Kristin), and niece, Charlie. He was preceded in death by his father, John Vincent Comerford.
Patrick and Tiffany are surrounded by loving in-laws – Brad and Melissa Thompson, Bradley Thompson, Jr., Kori Thompson, Troy and Nicole Thompson, Brett and Ali Falkenrath, Edward and Amy Pugsley, Greg and Emily Plazier, and lots of nieces and nephews who adored Patrick.
A Soda Party to celebrate Patrick’s life will be held on Monday, June 26th at 7 PM at the Comerford’s home, 1120 W. Buckwheat Circle, Riverton, Utah.
