Paul Arthur Davies' Obituary
On September 30th, 2020, Paul Arthur Davies passed away from a 7-month battle with cancer. Paul spent his last 7 months surrounded by his loving family. They told stories, went for walks, listened to music, ate food, and even took a family trip to Southern Utah so he could swim again. Paul’s wife Julie Davies, their 5 children and their spouses (Adam and Holly, Jarrod and Angie, Matthew and Megan, Jessica and Ben, and Ashley and Nick), 20 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren will miss him.
Paul was born in May of 1953 in Murray, Utah to Earl and Dorothy Davies. He had 7 sisters and 1 brother. He fondly remembered his younger years biking around Salt Lake Valley and spending his summers at the pool with his mother. In high school, he became an avid music lover and a talented diver.
Paul and Julie went on a hike for their first date and were married in November of 1974. They raised 5 children together. Paul’s love of books, music, movies, and food was passed down to all his children. Some of what he loved was a bit weird, but his children are all a bit weird as well.
Paul developed his skills in the kitchen when he started working for Denny’s in high school. He took pride in his work managing and training employees at Denny’s, Cracker Barrel, Fireside Pizzeria, and Joe’s Crab Shack. He enjoyed helping people and wanted everyone to have enjoyed their time in the restaurant. He was once offered a job as a chef for Barnum & Bailey Circus. Paul and Julie chose to stay in Utah close to their families, but they began traveling the world as their children grew up. The travels regularly included hiking, where Paul would find a good rock to sit on and quietly contemplate the natural world.
At home, Paul could be found doing projects with his wife. They built three houses together, not to mention the two they renovated in the earlier years of their marriage. He was a skilled craftsman around the house and developed a love of woodworking and basket weaving.
Grave-side services will be held at Marion Cemetery in Marion, UT, on Friday, October 2nd, 2020 at 2:00pm.
