Paul Garry Shinney's Obituary
Paul Garry Shinney
December 1, 1969 – August 30, 2017
Paul Garry Shinney, loving father, grandfather, son, brother and friend passed away on August 30, 2017. He was born on December 1, 1969 and raised in Taylor, Utah, son of Garry and Sharyn Shinney (Read). Paul was an amazing father to three wonderful children; Tyler, Cassidi and Dallas. He was a proud parent, sacrificing long hours at work to provide his family with the nice things in life. He cherished his puppies; Isabelle, Ellie, Thunder, Grizzly, Wolfie, Charlie and Baxter. They loved him unconditionally and were always by his side.
A true kid at heart, Paul enjoyed board games, video games, movies and amusement parks. Not a summer went by without a Lagoon season pass for the family or multiple trips to the Hogle Zoo. The typical day with Dad included “cherry picking” the best deals at his favorite grocery stores and the option to hold the cart or his hand even being 13 years old. Paul always tried to make sure you felt special in every way possible. In his younger years, he was the life of the party with his infectious smile and commanding voice which could carry the room. These qualities continued throughout his life.
A man of routine, he never missed a birthday in Wendover, a haircut every other Tuesday or the weekly Wednesday night dinner with his kids. Recently, Paul was blessed with a grandson that he loved and cherished. He would hold Zach for hours and just smile with a sparkle in his eye.
Paul is proceeded in death by his mother Sharyn Shinney (Read) and survived by his children, Tyler Smith, Cassidi (Shane) Ellis and Dallas Shinney; as well as his father, Garry Shinney, sister Traci (Adam) Scott, brother Terrance (Amy) Shinney and his grandson Zachary Ellis. He leaves behind countless friends and family members that will miss him dearly. Dad, we will always miss your embracing hugs and “I Love You” every time we walked out the door.
As a final farewell, we are asking friends, family and acquaintances to write a story about Paul to be given to his children. Many of you had powerful and lasting impacts to Paul’s life, of which the stories may have never been shared.
An open house Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday September 9, 2017 from 12 – 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, our family is asking for financial assistance to help offset the costs associated with cremation. We have set up a GoFundMe account or please bring your donations to the celebration. The family will honor Paul’s wish and spread his ashes “on the mountain”. Any money left will be evenly divided by his 3 children and their families.
The Celebration of Life will be held at the Ellis residence; 2626 W 3900 S, Roy, UT 84067. Food will be available.
