Paula Lorena De Santiago's Obituary
Our beloved Paula Lorena de Santiago (Lopez) passed away at her home in Saratoga Springs,
Utah, on November 27, 2023. Paula was born on January 26, 1972, in Santiago, Chile to
Patricia Angelica Palavecino and Wilfredo Rene Lopez. She attended Escuela de Aplicacion
Abdon Cifuentes in Santiago Centro.
Paula loved to go to the stadium with her family and root for her soccer team, Universidad de
Chile. She enjoyed reading books from Isabel Allende, listening to Silvio Rodriguez, and Luis
Miguel, working with her hands in arts and crafts, serving others, and lifting those in need. Paula
served the Argentinian people as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints, where she helped hundreds of people, especially Aboriginal people teaching them how
to plant vegetable gardens, hygiene, and health while teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Paula married Alejandro de Santiago in 1996 in Santiago, Chile, and then moved to Utah where
they settled and called it home. In 2007, a friend invited her to run and she fell in love with it.
Paula then spent her spare time running, swimming, and cycling, competing in more than 20
races (marathons, triathlons. etc.). She was also a Cub and Boy Scouts leader for years serving
dozens of boys and finally earning her Wood Badge.
Paula was a social butterfly and had an infectious and loud laugh. She made friends wherever
she went and was loved by family, friends, and all who knew her. Paula was cheerful,
spontaneous, crazy, sincere, loving, attentive, kind, brave and very strong.
In 2015, Paula was involved in a horrible car accident which left her quadriplegic, unable to
speak and care for herself. For the past 8 years, her strength, spirit, and example have helped
thousands overcome their life challenges.
Paula is survived by her husband, Alejandro de Santiago, her children, Elias, Daniel, Camila,
Benjamin, and Jacob; her parents Wilfredo and Patricia Lopez; her siblings Milton, Camilo,
Mauro, Zalo, Carla, and Patricia, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her grandparents, René and Olga Lopez and José and Raquel
Palavecino.
A Viewing will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am followed by
Funeral Services beginning at 11:00 am at the Saratoga Springs Utah South Stake Center, 2947
S Swainson Ave, Saratoga Springs, UT 84045.

hija de Patricia Angélica Palavecino y Wilfredo René López. Asistió a la Escuela de Aplicacion

Le encantaba ir al estadio con su familia y apoyar a su equipo de fútbol, la Universidad de
Chile. Le gustaba leer libros de Isabel Allende, escuchar música de Silvio Rodriguez y Luis
Miguel, trabajar con sus manos en artes y manualidades, servir a los demás y ayudar a los
necesitados. Paula sirvió al pueblo argentino como misionera de la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los
Santos de los Últimos Días, donde ayudó a cientos de personas, especialmente aborígenes,
enseñándoles cómo plantar huertos, higiene y salud mientras les enseñaba el evangelio de
Jesucristo.
Paula se casó con Alejandro de Santiago en 1996 en Santiago, Chile y luego se mudó a Utah.
En 2007, una amiga la invitó a correr y ella se enamoró. Luego, Paula dedicó su tiempo libre a
correr, nadar y andar en bicicleta y compitió en más de 20 carreras (maratones, triatlones, etc.).
También fue líder de Cub y Boy Scouts durante años, sirviendo a docenas de niños y
finalmente obtuvo su Wood Badge.
Paula era muy sociable con una risa fuerte y contagiosa. Hacía amigos dondequiera que iba y
era querida por su familia, sus amigos y todos los que la conocían. Paula era alegre,
espontánea, loca, sincera, cariñosa, atenta, amable, valiente y muy fuerte.
En 2015, Paula estuvo involucrada en un horrible accidente automovilístico que la dejó
tetrapléjica, incapaz de hablar y de cuidarse sola. Durante los últimos 8 años, su fuerza, espíritu
y ejemplo ayudaron a miles de personas a superar sus desafíos de la vida.
A Paula le sobreviven su esposo, Alejandro de Santiago, sus hijos, Elías, Daniel, Camila,
Benjamín y Jacob; sus padres Wilfredo y Patricia López; sus hermanos Milton, Camilo, Mauro,
Zalo, Carla y Patricia Paz, así como muchas tías, tíos, primos, sobrinas y sobrinos. Le
precedieron en la muerte sus abuelos, René y Olga López y José y Raquel Palavecino.
Se llevará a cabo su velorio el Sábado 2 de Diciembre de 2023 de 9:00 am a 10:30 am,
seguido de servicios funerarios a partir de las 11:00 am en el Centro de Estaca de Saratoga
Springs Utah Sur en 2947 S Swainson Ave, Saratoga Springs, UT 84045.
