Peggy Lyn Barnett's Obituary
Peggy Lyn Barnett, 69, passed away on the evening of November 21, 2025. She departed this world in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family, after a short battle with end-stage cancer.
Born on May 22, 1956, to Max and Elise Barnett in Salt Lake City, Utah, Peggy was the third of six children. She had a strong, confident manner that allowed her to command a room among her siblings, and she never failed to keep her rowdy brothers in line. She graduated from Granite High School and later earned a B.S. degree in Behavioral Science & Health from the University of Utah in 1983.
Peggy was a proud and passionate University of Utah Utes fan. As an alumna and football season ticket holder for over 40 years, she cheered on the Utes through rain, shine, and everything in between. She also devoted countless hours to local charitable organizations, including KUED and the Hogle Zoo.
Her first job was at Auerbach’s, where she worked alongside her sister Wendy as a teenager. She later served at the University of Utah Police Department while completing her studies, followed by roles at American Express, FHP and Ingenix to highlight a few. Peggy concluded her career with two decades of dedicated work at Myriad Genetics.
A gifted seamstress, Peggy discovered her love of sewing in elementary school, sparking a lifelong passion for creating. Over the years, she crafted beautiful quilts, Halloween costumes, altered clothing, and countless other projects. Her creativity knew no bounds, and she always had a new and unique craft underway.
Traveling was Peggy’s greatest joy. She loved exploring the world, immersing herself in new cultures, and meeting people wherever she went. Her adventures took her to six continents, with some of her favorite destinations including Maui, Iceland, the Polynesian Islands, China, and Alaska.
Peggy’s love was felt deeply by her family and friends. She made a heartfelt effort to support every life milestone of those closest to her. She was fondly known as “Aunt Peggy” by many, far and wide. Her kind heart, infectious laugh, and adventurous spirit will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Peggy is preceded in death by her father, Max Barnett and her sister, Wendy (Michael) Usher. She is survived by her mother, Dora Elise Barnett, her siblings: Paul (Kathy) Barnett, Gary (Pam) Barnett, Brian (Jayne) Barnett, and Brenda (Randy) Kirby, 12 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
There will be no public funeral services, as Peggy wished to be cremated and have her ashes spread in places she cherished. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Peggy’s name to one of her favorite charitable organizations: PBS Utah (KUED)https://donate.pbsutah.org/home?campaign=8070C3F0-172D-46DF-B914-4254CDCCF61F, Utah’s Hogle Zoo https://www.hoglezoo.org/donate/, or Pacific Whale Foundation https://pacificwhale.org/?form=FUNLGMCFSLP.
