Phyllis Lorraine Evans Bergeson's Obituary
Phyllis Lorraine Evans Bergeson, cherished and loving sister, mother and grandmother passed away early Sunday morning, 30 May 2021 at the age of 89. Phyllis was born 17 December 1931, the second daughter of William Cody Evans and Lorraine Winifred Buley.
She grew up in Vancouver, Washington and graduated from Vancouver High School. She attended Clark College in Vancouver and graduated from Western Washington State College in Bellingham, Washington in 1954 with a degree in education. While attending Western she married Hugh Neil Bergeson on 12 September 1953 at the First Christian Church in Vancouver Washington. They later divorced. She raised her four children in Tacoma Washington. To better provide for her family she returned to school and completed a Master’s degree. She also took and passed the Unified Certified Public Accounting examination. After serving a family history mission in Erie Pennsylvania, and while serving a mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City Utah she relocated to Holladay permanently. Phyllis served several additional missions at the Family History Library.
As an enthusiastic member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Phyllis served in many ways: Cub Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, Young Women’s advisor, missionary to the Cambodian Branch in Tacoma, Girl’s Camp cook, temple worker, and friend. Phyllis loved helping people in need. She was a patient grandma, particularly with her older grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, singing, playing board games, reading, hiking, working puzzles, cycling, walking with friends, and working in her yard. She was an avid leather worker and seamstress.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, DeEtta Anglin, and four children; Guy (Jeneene) Bergeson of Roy Utah, Cynthia (Michael) Fordham of Tacoma Washington, Glenn Bergeson of Lakewood Washington, Scott (Paula) Bergeson of Orem Utah, 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10 June 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cottonwood 4th Ward meeting house located at 5565 South Neighbor Lane, Holladay, Utah. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Interment in Elysian Burial Gardens, Millcreek (Salt Lake City), Utah.
