Phyllis Rae Child's Obituary
Phyllis Rae Child
March 29, 1936 – April 2, 2023
Our much-loved mother, grandmother, and friend, Phyllis Rae Child, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023.
Phyllis was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and lived there with her parents (John and Gwen Funk), sister (Margaret), and brother (J). Her beloved Grandma and Grandpa Anderson lived nearby, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Phyllis’ dad was in the military, so the family was stationed in many places while she was growing up, including Virginia, Maryland, Texas, Alaska, and Wisconsin.
Phyllis attended part of her high school years in Heidelberg, Germany. While the Funk family hosted Church meetings in their home there, she met her future husband, Ralph Child. After returning to Utah, Phyllis graduated from East High School.
Phyllis and Ralph were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 15, 1955. Together, they are the devoted parents of four children: Kaye, Liz (Howard), Deanne, and Scott (Lori).
Phyllis was a fun and supportive wife and mother. She had a great laugh and loved being with her family. Whether it was playing games at the kitchen table, watching sports and game shows, going on car rides, or going out to eat, Phyllis made everything fun for everyone!
Phyllis was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, which sustained her throughout her life. With much of her service centered around her daughter Kaye, Phyllis helped with the start of the Holladay Special Needs Mutual, where she happily served for many years.
Phyllis loved everyone and was loved by all in return. She leaves a legacy of faith and devotion to her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was joyously greeted in Heaven by her husband Ralph, her daughter Kaye, and great-grandson George.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Willow Creek 7th Ward, 2115 Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights. Prior to the service, a viewing will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
