Phyllis Mae Crosland's Obituary
Phyllis Mae Johnson Crosland, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend peacefully passed away in her sleep, Wednesday afternoon in Salt Lake City. She was eighty-eight years old.
Phyllis Mae Johnson Crosland was born May 5, 1926, to Grant LeRoy Johnson and Elva Teeples Johnson and grew up in Holden, Utah. She graduated from Millard High school. She married Rex Crosland on December 17, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for over seventy years. Together they raised five children. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many ward positions including twice as Relief Society President. She loved serving others, especially her husband and family. Her love of gardening, which she inherited from her mother, brought her and many others great joy. She took pride in her gardens and received many gardening awards, both in Park City and Salt Lake City. For many years, she was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and so enjoyed her association with all of the women. She started her own business at the Cottonwood Mall called Jiffy Knit.
Most of all, Phyllis loved her family and dedicated her life to caring for her husband and raising her five children. Phyllis was the most kind and selfless person and was always thinking of how she could help other people, especially her family.
Phyllis kept a journal everyday of her life. She wrote in her journal until the day before her passing. She spent many, many years writing journals and making “Books of Remembrance” for all of her children. She has over one hundred and twenty journals and family history albums she has compiled over many years.
She is survived by her husband, Rex, Salt Lake City, UT; children, Craig Crosland (Bonnie), Sandy, UT; Claudia Crosland, Salt Lake City, UT; Jolynn Schutjer (Rock), Holladay, UT; Jill Balli (Bryan), Holladay, UT; and Todd Crosland (Jill), Holladay, UT; sister, Beverly Lund, Kearns, UT; sister, Sherrill Nelson, Hurricane, UT; brother, Earl Johnson, Holden, UT, and 16 grandchildren: Michael (Kristy), Troy, Danielle (Kent), Lindsey (Mike), Dustin, Rocky (April), Matt, Clay, Cole (Carly), Nick (Jenny Lynn), Amber (Will), Nate (Ellesse), Brooke (Dave), Cliff (Stephanie), Katie (Talon), Benjamin and twenty seven great grandchildren – soon to be twenty eight – with one great great grandchild soon to be born.
