Phyllis Jo Ann King's Obituary
Phyllis Jo Ann King
Jo Ann King passed away on Sunday, November 6th in Logan, Utah, at the age of 87. She was born on September 4th, 1935 in Paragould, Arkansas where she grew up with her mother and 4 siblings. She was an outstanding student through high school and graduated at the top of her class. She was set up on a blind date to the man that became the love of her life, Joe King of Jonesboro, Arkansas. From that fateful day, they were together until his passing in 2012. After marriage, they moved to Memphis, Tennessee and then to the Des Moines, Iowa area. Joe and Jo Ann had 2 sons, who were the pride of their lives.
Jo Ann worked as a secretary at a civil engineering firm for many years, using her ability to type 80 wpm. She was very active in her community, volunteering with her church, her sons' schools and activities, and helping to found the Clive, Iowa Public Library. Jo Ann was an avid football fan but never took sides in the annual Cy-Hawk game because one son is a Cyclone and the other is a Hawkeye.
After retirement, she spent her time traveling with Joe on numerous cruises in the Caribbean and Panama, as well as traveling to Korea and Hong Kong. She also enjoyed sitting on her back deck with a cup of coffee watching the people and cars go by. She always loved to host holiday gatherings for her family, serving a standing rib roast or her amazing chicken & dumplings.
Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Elgin and Nellie (Burk) Meadows and her husband Joseph Henry King. She is survived by her sons Trent (Marcie) King and Randy (Kathy) King, five granddaughters, and seven great grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held for family at a later date.
