Phyllis Paschal's Obituary
Phyllis was the 14th of 15 children born to George William and Martha Brauer Gwynn in North Salt Lake, UT. Growing up with all of those children gave Phyllisa strong work ethic, plus she was very competitive. Her mother passed away at a young age, and healing from this loss was difficult for all of the Gwynn children. She and her brothers and sisters loved boating with their dad, along with their fun days fishing at the lakes around Utah. The love of boating and fishing was also passed down to Grandpa Gwynn’s grandchildren.
Phyllis attended Davis High School where she excelled in basketball. She had many friends in school that she liked to reminisce and tell stories about, and she never lost her memories. Her sisters Ellen and Audrey were two of her closest friends.
She married Raymond E. Paschal on July 22, 1952 in Elko, NV. The next year their daughter Kimberly joined their family, and 21 months later their daughter Joby completed their family of four.
Ray and Phyllis divorced in 1969, and she and the girls moved to Bountiful, UT, where she has resided ever since.
Phyllis worked at Sperry Univac for many years. She started out working on the assembly line solderingcomponents for missiles, eventually working her way up to manager. After leaving Sperry, she went on to work at Grand Central/Fred Meyers/Smith’s (yes, she worked there through all the name changes) and enjoyed not only her job in men’s wear and customer service, but also everyone she worked with. Through her friends at each of her jobs, she learned to play golf—which she played until she retired. She had quite the swing!
After retiring, Phyl loved watching television, especially her ‘stories,’ and she said she had more of an education than most people receive by going to college. We lovingly referred to her as Dr. Phyl because she never hesitated to give medical advice based on what she learned from the soap operas she watched every day.
Survived by her daughters Kimberly (Brent Budd) and Joby (Dan Kamp), along with grandchildren Cheryl Sanford, Eli Sanford, Trace Sanford (Jessica), KelsieKamp Marx (Patrick), and Tyson Kamp (Megan);great-grandchildren Truman Evans, Harper Evans, Ryan Sanford, Cole Sanford and Isaiah Marx. She is survived by her brother (the 15th of the 15 children),Arnold Gwynn (Donna), plus many, many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her two precious grandchildren Erin Sanford Evans and Taylor Sanford. Also preceded in death by brothers Francis, Hyrum, Palmer, Donnell, Jackie, Cleon, Juel and Henry; and sisters Florence, Dorothea, Marie, Ellen and Audrey. She was preceded, too, in death by her favorite soap opera ‘Guiding Light.’ Phyl’s medical advice has been just a tad off since it ended.
A special thank you to Dr. James Pearl for keeping our mother as healthy as she’s been for the past 28 years.
Phyllis will be laid to rest next to her beloved mother and father at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
