Preston "Scott" Carter's Obituary
Preston “Scott” Carter passed away December 6, 2022, after a struggle with dementia over the past few years.
Scott was born on November 18, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the fourth of four children of Elmer and Elaine Stoddard Carter. Scott grew up with his brother, Gary and his sisters Judy and Carol in San Diego. He spent most of his time at the beach or hunting and fishing with his extended family in Minersville and the hills of Beaver Country.
Scott worked in construction and as a mechanic. He was that guy who could fix almost anything. His love of cars took him to the Salt Flats to help his friends Nolan, Rick and Brad White as they pursued land speed records and helping Rick when he was racing his top-fuel dragster. He also helped his friend Ron Costa on a few of his deep-sea fishing charters.
Scott was always busy and loved helping his friends and anyone stranded along the road or in need of help. He could change a flat tire in record time. He was most at home in the outdoors, on the dance floor, or tinkering with a car. Scott was an excellent dancer and wanted to dance professionally when he was young. He was amazingly flexible even at 80.
Scott had an enthusiasm for life that was infectious. He loved being down on his knees with his grandchildren so he could be at their level. He enjoyed sports and he and Ellen were able to enjoy many seasons of Utah Jazz basketball and University of Utah football that took them to 2 years of NBA finals and the Fiesta Bowl. Scott and Ellen enjoyed traveling together but the best trips were always to visit grandbabies and family.
Scott left us with the same speed that he lived life with. He is survived by his sister Carol Verhaeren, Ellen his wife and partner of 44 years, his daughter Christine Pickle (Mike), his son D. Scott Carter (Greta) 6 grandchildren Samantha Parrish (Josh), Brandon Carter, Jessica Rotenberry (Jordan), Jake Boudreau, Joshua Carter (Trisha), Richard Carter and 3 great-grandchildren Julia, Ryker, and Maggie as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
