RaNae N Dumas' Obituary
RaNae Nichols Dumas
(Nana)
Our beautiful mother and nana passed away March 14th, 2023 at the age of 83. Born January 22, 1940 in Lehi Utah to Howard B. and Thelma Jones Nichols. A graduate of Murray High School, she married James Dale Dumas on April 2nd 1958 in the Salt Lake City Temple; he passed away May 5th 2015.
For more than sixty years mom and dad (bompa) lived and raised their family in Murray. Each held many LDS Church positions, but mom’s favorite was with dad when they were called to serve together at the rest home. She was an extremely active parent in our schools, PTA and Scouting programs while we were growing up. Remembered as a Murray Icon, mom retired after working for more than twenty years at Take-5 Drive Inn. She impacted and shaped the lives of many high school students who worked for her over the years. She enjoyed her time at Take-5 tremendously; she loved “her” customers and knew most of them by name.
Everything in our mother’s life focused around family. Holidays were filled with warmth, and her love was made evident in her homemade pies, rolls and goodies. For more than forty years, she lovingly prepared a beautiful Sunday dinner for the entire family, and anyone else who wanted to come. (She even catered to us picky eaters with personalized dishes)
Without a doubt, mom’s greatest joy was her grandchildren. She celebrated all of their achievements, from birth to marriage and everything in between and after. Her love knew no bounds and her loving influence is etched into their hearts forever. She can be proud that their successes are largely attributed to her and bompa. We felt blessed that she was also active in her great grandchildren’s lives, which included a special loving bond with 11-year-old Whitney who visited her often and spoke to her daily. Nana was proud to boast that she had become a great great grandmother this past year, and even in her declining health, could not wait to meet and hold her great great grandson McCrae.
Survived by 5 children: Kim Dumas, Howard Dumas (Cindy) Jim Dumas (Sylvia) Judy Yocom (Barry) Kaelyn Denison (Jared) 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Preceded in death by many family members including her husband (James Dale Dumas), parents (Howard & Thelma Nichols) sister (Judy Knight) niece (April Knight) nephew (Nicklas Knight) great granddaughter (Abigail Zornes).
Closed Casket Visitation at Premier Funeral Home: 67 East 8000 South, Midvale Utah Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 11 am to 12 pm followed by service in chapel. Burial at Murray City Cemetery. Mom requested no flowers because she believed that they should be given to the living to enjoy. She loved her pets and would be pleased to have you donate to the Utah Humane Society. We would like to thank Inspiration Hospice nurses Randi and Kaylee for their compassionate and loving care during mom’s last 17 days. Many thanks to Kim Dumas who, for 8 years was tasked with helping mom with personal care, her daily needs, and getting her to doctor appointments and running her many errands.
Mom, we love you very much and will miss you until we see you again.
