Raymond Shigeru Nakasone's Obituary
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Raymond Shigeru Nakasone passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, in Clinton, Utah.
Ray was born on November 3, 1941, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Shigeichi and Kikue Nakasone.
He was a lifelong resident of Hawaii until he moved to Utah with his wife in January 2020. He spent his early years in Wahiawa where he graduated from Leilehua High School. Ray was also a graduate of Church College of Hawaii.
In 1963 Ray married his wife Ione in Kahului Maui. Together they raised their three sons in Moanalua and then Aiea where they resided until 2020.
Ray retired from The Bus company after working there for more than 30 years. He made many friends while there and even had a historic collection of Bus aloha shirts!
Ray was a loving and supportive father and grandfather as he always attended his children’s and grandchildren’s ball games and other events. He was so proud of their accomplishments and always encouraged them to seek out opportunities to serve and grow.
Ray was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many capacities including Young Men’s/ Scout Leader and Bishop of the Pearlridge Ward. After his retirement he served as a service missionary at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Honolulu.
Ray was humble and rarely spoke about his personal accomplishments. He loved the scouting program and was honored to receive the Silver Beaver Award from the Aloha BSA Council for his service to scouting. Ray also enjoyed genealogy and travelled to Okinawa to further research his family tree.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Ione C. Nakasone, his sons Thian (Shelley), Nathan (Naomi), and V.J. Nakasone. He was the proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Arianne, Boone, Nanea, Finn, Nahaku, Ellie, and Enson. He is also survived by his siblings Edwin (Sandy) Nakasone and Rowena Ogata. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Ran.
Burial and graveside services will be held in Hawaii at a later date.
