Rayola Smith Hardman's Obituary
Rayola Smith Hardman
1946-2017
On the evening of January 4, 2017, Rayola Smith Hardman quietly slipped away from life’s joys and sorrows into a place of rest that she had wished for off and on from the time of her dear husband, Frank's death, a year and a half earlier.
Rayola was born and grew up in Alpine, Utah, along with two older brothers, and two younger brothers. She was constantly “provoked” by brothers on all sides and learned patience and grit growing up in a family of love and support.
Rayola graduated from American Fork High School and went on to work in several different jobs until she finally found her place in bookkeeping, which she practiced for many years until retiring in about 2010.
A single mother, she raised her son, Troy, with deep respect and support from her parents, until Frank came along in the early 70’s with his two children, Beverly and Frank Jr. Frank was the best thing that ever happened to Rayola. He had experienced tough years and had other children of his own, but the blending of their lives was a godsend. Their civil marriage was eventually solemnized in the Mt. Timpanogos LDS temple. In life they were always together and they were always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
Rayola had a sharp mind and a keen wit. She was always positive and when asked how she was she always answered “wonderful” even in the last days when she was in pain and discomfort.
Rayola is survived by her bothers: Alan (Susanne), Dennis (Veloy), Ronald (Joanne); children: Beverly (Jay) Davis, Troy (Tian), and Frank Jr. (Tammie); Frank’s children: Valerie, Dean Reichley, and Julie; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. Rayola was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Luana, her brother Delane, and Frank's daughter Debbie.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the LDS Highland South Stake Center, 9600 N. 6800 W., Highland, UT. A viewing will be held at the Stake Center from 11 to 12:45 prior to the service. Interment at the Alpine City Cemetery.
