Richard William Cooper's Obituary
Richard was born March 8, 1938 and in the presence of his family he left this earth and returned to his earthly parents October 24, 2015. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho to parents William Henry Cooper and Dottie Holly Cheney. He was the youngest of six children and was lovingly called Dickie by his family. He grew up in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School. Richard completed his Associates degree in drafting at Idaho State University. He married Patricia Webster in September 1961 and later divorced. A second marriage to Jacqueline Glines was solemnized in the Manti temple in June 1963. It produced four children, and after 19 years divorced as well. Later in his life he enjoyed long-term companionship in Salt Lake City, with Carol Thomas and then later in time in Oreville, CA with Shirley Bugado.
Richard proudly served in the United States Army. He served as a medic and excelled in marksmanship. He served during peacetime from June 1959 to May 1961. Richard’s employment included being the Utah Field Representative for the March of Dimes, and the Company Manager for Ballet West. Later in life he focused his talents and interests on being a computer technician. Richard had a love of learning and especially enjoyed educational television programs.
Richard is survived by his sister, Shirley (Howard), and brother, Ray (Marilou). Children Shawn (Teri), Christian (Angela), Penny (Cranford), James (Kris), 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents William and Dottie, and brothers, Glenn and Lee and one sister, Betty.
The family would like to thank the staff at Washington Terrace Care Center for caring for him with patience and compassion. The family is extremely grateful for the respect and reverence they displayed at his passing, and the care they provided to them during this difficult time.
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at Camp Williams in Riverton, Utah.
