Richard Roylance Crandall
1926-2020
Richard Roylance Crandall, age 93, of Provo, Utah, passed away on March 12, 2020.
He was born in Springville, Utah, on August 20, 1926 to Edward Thompson and Helen Roylance Crandall.
Richard graduated from Springville High School in 1944 where he participated in sports, FFA and other activities. He loved music of all styles, but especially jazz. While in high school, he organized a dance band and performed often in the community. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
While attending Utah State University, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Marinda Smith. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, May 3, 1950. Upon receiving his degree in Civil Engineering, they moved to San Luis Obispo, California where they resided for 36 years. He worked for the State of California Department of Highways for 30 years. Upon his retirement, Richard and Dorothy relocated to Utah, settling in Provo.
Richard loved spending time with his family and was always excited for visits from his kids and grandchildren. Together, he and Dorothy raised 4 children. He enjoyed gardening and took pride in growing his own ingredients for the homemade salsa he and Dorothy made for family, friends and neighbors. He was an avid reader and loved to spend time relaxing on his front porch looking at the mountains. He loved to watch all kinds of sports and was an avid Utah Jazz and BYU fan.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Provo; daughters, Debra (Jim) Boyd, Eldorado Hills, California; Mollie (Mark) Allen, Rancho Santa Margarita, California; Beckie (Sig) McKell, Spanish Fork, Utah; and son, Steve (Jim) Crandall, Lehi, Utah; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Margaret (Peggy) Childress.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley, Idaho.
