Richard Alvin Driggs' Obituary
Richard Alvin Driggs passed away March 11th, 2023 at the age of 87 with family by his side. He had valiantly and courageously maintained a positive attitude during a very long and difficult year of many serious surgeries. He is survived by his wife and eternal companion, Mary Yvonne Driggs, and by his son Mike Driggs (Elena), His stepson Steve Black and by his sister Lorraine Turner.
Rich was born in Salt Lake City, UT October 12th, 1935 to Melvin Pratt Driggs and Dora Cecelia Hanzon Driggs. He was the 4th of five children. Just prior to his teenage years, his family moved to Northern California, where he spent most of his life. As with most families with the last name Driggs, Rich's family members were all exceptionally musical. Their family entertainment frequently included gathering around the piano to blend their voices in song.
Rich's love for music led to his desire to move with the music which led to his becoming a super creative ballroom dance instructor. While that was his favorite occupation, he enjoyed a variety of employment opportunities including working in banking, life insurance and the funeral industry. When he wasn't working full time as a dance instructor, he almost always fit it into his schedule as a side hustle. He also enjoyed instructing in many church dance festivals.
Rich met Yvonne Black, who just happened to love dancing almost as much as he did. He swept her off her feet and made her laugh. He finally decided to cancel his bachelorhood at age 42, and he and Yvonne were married for time and all eternity in the Oakland, CA Temple on December 28th, 1977.
Rich was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to serve whenever and wherever he was called. He enjoyed keeping up with the Come Follow Me lessons. He loved the Scriptures and spent time whenever he could, reading church history. He tried to exemplify his Savior, Jesus Christ in love, in kindness, in patience and long-suffering. He was known for his quick wit, his compassion for others and his non-confrontational attributes.
Rich will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
