Richard Carlton Grimes' Obituary
Richard Carlton Grimes, Jr. passed away on February 16, 2023 with his loving wife by his side. Our hearts are broken and he will be missed beyond anything words could express.
Rick was born April 20, 1967 to Richard Carlton Grimes, Sr. and Linda Marion Williams in Salt Lake City and attended schools in the area. Rick graduated from Olympus High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps.
Rick enjoyed many outdoor activities and was often found on a lake fishing or boating, in the mountains in his ATV exploring or at the sand dunes on his motorcycles. He was an experienced horseman and loved riding and caring for them for many years. He also bred beautiful Golden Retrievers after falling in love with his grandfather’s when he was young.
Rick was well known in the custom homebuilding industry in Utah County as the General Manager of Four Seasons Landscape and Design. He loved working for Bob Tillotson and the opportunity to build some of the most beautiful landscapes in the state. He lived out every little boy’s childhood dream of digging and moving rocks and mountains with excavators and backhoes. He dearly loved his crews and would do anything to help them. He took great satisfaction in working with clients to make their dreams reality. By the end of each project, he considered them family.
Rick married his wife, Colleen, in November of 2022. They loved cooking together, binge watching favorite TV series, Marvel movies, singing together and their pets, Blue, Sadie, Axel, Beau and Loki. They also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, most often feasting on the amazing creations Rick made in his smoker. He was a fantastic cook and no one ever went hungry if he had anything to do with it.
Rick’s greatest accomplishment and love in his life was his family. He was a father figure to many regardless of blood. He chose them and they chose him. His presence will be missed in their lives.
Rick is survived by his wife, Colleen Grimes; his children: Carlton Grimes, Craig Grimes, Nicholas Crowhurst, Cory Forsey (Cameron), Riley Johnson, Ashlynn Johnson (Steven Fisher) and Grace Grimes. He was a grandfather to two: Emerie and Mason and anxiously awaiting one more baby boy, Harlow, due in April. Rick is also survived by his Father, Richard Carlton Grimes Sr (Sheila) and siblings: Sharon Brown ( Paul), David Grimes ( Julie), Jeremy Grimes ( Buffer), Jonathan Grimes (MaryBeth), Melanie Thompson ( Damon) and Marissa VanNoy ( Jay).
Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother, Linda Marion Grimes.
A celebration of life open house will be held on Sunday, March 19th, 2023 from 4 until 6:30pm with a short program at 5:30. It will be held at Shade Home and Garden Nursery, 435 South Geneva Road, Orem Utah.
