Richard Kirkwood Snyder
1933-2017
Richard (Dick) Kirkwood Snyder, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on March 17, 2017, at the age of 83 surrounded by loved ones, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Christie Snyder of Provo.
Dick was born November 4th, 1933 in Provo, UT, to Malcolm Deloss and Mildred Mary Kirkwood Snyder. The oldest of seven children, Dick attended Provo schools with his siblings. He served in the US Army’s 25th Signal Battalion during the Korean War.
Dick and his beloved wife, Norma Jean Smith, were married on August 20, 1955, in Provo. Following their marriage, the newlyweds moved to Gardena, California where their three children were born. They also lived in Garden Grove and Anaheim, California. Dick worked for United Parcel Service for almost twenty years. The family returned to Utah in 1974 and settled in Springville. He worked as a machinist at Valtek until his retirement. At that time Dick and Jean moved to Hurricane, Utah.
Dick was an avid woodworker and could build just about anything. For the past several years he built wooden toys to donate to Toy for Tots.
Dick loved to fish, camp and explore the California desert with his brothers and sons. He was creative, hardworking and devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, and sons Ronald D. Snyder (Debra), Dan R. Snyder (Christie); grandchildren Isaac Snyder (Mandy), Richard Snyder, Teea Snyder Church, Mallory Snyder, Andrew Snyder, Russell Snyder (Jacquelyn), Sean Snyder; great-grandchildren Colby Church, Kaden Church, Brooklynn Church, Addison Snyder, Peyton Snyder, Bowdrie Snyder; and siblings, Patricia Snyder (Michael) Baldwin , Kent Snyder (Geri), Lloyd Snyder (Lucy), Michael Snyder (Wanda), Dennis Snyder (Carol), and David Snyder (Elena).
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Linda Sue Snyder.
A private memorial will be held at the Snyder home on March 31, 2017.
