Richard Mark Woolf's Obituary
Richard Mark Woolf
1935 - 2017
Richard Mark Woolf, age 82, of Orem, died at home on October 8,2017. He was born on May 29, 1935 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the 8th of 9 children, to J. Harvey and Retta Woolf and lived in Ucon, Idaho. He grew up in Ucon and Idaho Falls during his youth, later living in California, Utah, Idaho, and Arizona, and finally settling in Utah.
He was a multi-faceted man when it came to work. He drove truck considerably and found much pleasure and a sense of accomplishment in doing so. This led him later on in life to establish and run a trucking company with about 30 semi-trucks, based out of Salt Lake City. His name was known widely as one with whom you could do business and be honestly treated – almost to a fault. Those working for him claimed they had never known a more fair and honorable employer.
Each avenue of growth to which he applied himself (florist and pool building, to name a couple) saw him excel in all he tried. Along with these talents were his musical gifts. As a youth he played the trumpet with an ease that would bring tears to your eyes – achieving the rating of Superior when playing “Beautiful Colorado” on his trumpet at an Idaho State music contest. Along with these achievements, he developed the gift of leading music. On one occasion in Mount Pleasant, Utah, he led a tri-stake choir with a small orchestra, performing The Messiah, which was acclaimed by many as being landmark in quality and sound.
Mark loved intensely his service in the temple and expressed on many occasions that such a place brought him peace and joy beyond measure. He remained a temple worker until his death.
His wife Kathy lovingly cared for him during his extended illness. Mark is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children Jon Martin Woodgate (Terrie), Kendal Martin Woodgate, Robert Martin Woodgate (Trudy), and Jill Woolf Salmond (Wayne); 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister Marie Tomecek of Arizona; and a brother, Gordon A Woolf (Karren) of Pomona, California.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 13, 2017 at the LDS Church located at 1000 North Main Street, Orem, UT where a viewing will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Interment in the Orem City Cemetery.
