Rickey Lee Thomas' Obituary
HIAWATHA/WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH- Rickey Lee Thomas, of Hiawatha, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 22, 2026.
Rickey was born on August 24, 1960, to Ronald O’Dell Thomas and Barbara Nickel in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the oldest of seven children. Rickey grew up in Hiawatha, Utah, and was raised by his dad and step-mother, Pat.
Rick would later find a career as a coal miner and as a cook in the area. His first job as a cook was at China City where he was adored by many.
Rick married Tonya and together they had two boys, Travis and David. They later divorced. He then married Christine and they had two boys, Daniel and Skylar. Rick and Christine later divorced. Rick resided in Salt Lake county with his dog, Blue, who was his lifetime companion.
Rickey loved the outdoors; especially camping and fishing. He loved to be around his family and his friends. Rick especially loved talking to his sister, Cindy, on the phone weekly. Rick had a big heart and was the kindest soul you could ever meet. He would always make a room light up when he walked in. Rick loved to make people laugh. If you ever hung-out with Rick the next morning you would have a story to tell. He wanted people to know how much he loved them and just wanted people to love him back. Rick sure did love his beer!
He is survived by his sons, Travis, David, Daniel, and Skylar; his sister, Cindy (Shance); brothers, Jayson Freeze and Mikey (Rosa) Thomas; and many nieces, nephews, and grandkids.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Thomas and Barbara Nickel; his sister, Melyssa Basso; brothers, David Thomas and Mathew Thomas; and his step-mother, Patricia Thomas.
