Robert "Bob" Jeffrey Dibbell's Obituary
Bob, 72, peacefully passed from this life at his son's home in Ogden, UT. Bob was born to Frank M and Norma (née Wiesendanger) Dibbell in Paterson, NJ, the youngest of four children. His family moved to California when he was a child where he spent the rest of his youth. He and his twin brother were featured in the local paper for celebrating their thirteenth birthday on Friday the thirteenth. He graduated from Peterson High School (Sunnyvale, CA) in 1970. GO PIRATES!
He met his wife at LIFE Bible College in 1974. Bob always liked to tell the story of how, on the night before freshman orientation, he “prayed to God, dedicating the next four years of his life to the ministry, how he was going to be a pastor, that it was God and him for the next four years.” The next morning he walked into the auditorium and scanned the faces of the freshman class and as he reached the far end of the room he heard a still small voice, “That is the girl you are going to marry.” He then proceeded to sit on the opposite side of the room; they were married the following year.
He had a 20+ year career with Lockheed Martin as a Quality Assurance Engineer. He took a transfer opportunity to Utah in 1989 that led to him working with many defense contractors throughout Utah, California, and Georgia. Engineering was not his only job, he also sold Avon products for many years, owned a small local emporium, and operated his own tax preparation and filing business on the side. After retiring from Lockheed he enjoyed a short second career as a Quality Engineer with Aerojet.
His wife passed away in 2008 and he reflected on all the vacations they had talked about doing someday but never got the chance. He decided he would not let life pass him by and he became a regular cruiser on Holland America Cruise Line and visited all the places he and his wife talked about seeing and more.
He attended many different churches throughout his life and was an Assistant Pastor at a Four Square Church in Roy, UT. In 2016 he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; a year later he was sealed to his wife (by proxy) and son in the Ogden Temple. He enjoyed meeting new people everywhere he went. He served in many different callings since joining the church, his favorite among them was serving as a choir director; he loved music and singing when he could.
He is preceded in death by his wife and parents. He is survived by his son Robb (Melissa) Ogden, UT; grandsons Jeffrey and Josh, and his three brothers Frank (Paula) CA, Chris (Abby) CA, Bruce - his twin (Carol) MT, his sister-in-law Lori (John) PA, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Atlas Home Health and Hospice for their visits and help during this time.
Bob did everyone’s taxes; but he forgot his own estate planning. Classic Bob. If you would like to pitch in for his sendoff (and maybe help settle a few ironic loose ends) the family would appreciate the gesture. Donations can be made through Venmo to @Robb-Dibbell
