Robert Eugene Farmer's Obituary
Robert Eugene Farmer passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026.
Robert was born on December 4, 1935, in Notus, Idaho, the youngest of eight children. He grew up on a large family farm where they raised and sold horses. The Farmer family was proud to be among the first in the area to own a tractor, purchased by one of his brothers after returning home from World War II.
During his years at Notus High School, Robert excelled in athletics, serving as captain of the basketball team and playing football. He later served his country in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany, where he worked as a driver for the commanding officer. His time overseas gave him the opportunity to travel throughout Germany, a country he remembered for its beautiful countryside and kind people.
On June 6, 1958, Robert married the love of his life, Helen Robinson, after meeting her shortly after his return from military service while she was singing in a nightclub. Their love and devotion to one another remained steadfast throughout their lives. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 18, 1999. Robert and Helen shared 67 wonderful years of marriage until Helen’s passing in 2025.
Robert began his career as a driver for a local dairy, before becoming a long-distance truck driver for IML in Caldwell, Idaho. In 1970, he moved his family to Roy Utah, where he later retired from ABF Freight in Salt Lake City. After retirement, Robert and Helen moved to Island Park, Idaho, where they enjoyed snowmobiling, riding four-wheelers, and spending time with friends. In later years, they moved to Hurricane, Utah, and eventually to Brigham City in 2022 so Robert could remain close to Helen after she entered assisted living due to dementia.
Robert loved the outdoors and lived an active life. In Idaho, he especially enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling with friends and looking forward to his children and grandchildren visiting. While living in Hurricane, he found joy in the warm weather, tending his garden, growing beautiful roses for Helen, watching backyard lizards, and spending evenings watching John Wayne movies. He was known for generously sharing the bounty of his large garden with neighbors and friends.
Faith and service were important parts of Robert’s life. His final church calling was serving as a Ward Missionary in the Hurricane 6th Ward.
Above all else, Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was generous, hardworking, loving, and instilled a strong work ethic in his children. He attended as many of their sporting events as possible and was always their greatest supporter. Some of his family’s favorite memories were the boating trips to Willard Bay, where he loved teaching his children to water ski and spending precious time together. His unwavering love, patience, and devotion to Helen set an enduring example for his family.
Robert is survived by his children, Clinton (Jan) Farmer, Bryant (Laura) Farmer, and Pahmela Farmer Foxley; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen; his son, Tracy Robert Farmer; his parents, Kirk and Clara Alva Farmer; and all his siblings.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Maple Springs Assisted Living for their compassionate care of Robert. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Karl Wall, whose hospice care and support over the past five years brought comfort and strength to both Robert and Helen. Karl, never underestimate the difference you have made in the lives of others.
