Robert Nunley Sr's Obituary
Robert William Nunley Sr. November 1, 1935 - May 24, 2023 Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away at home Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at age 87 of natural causes. Born November 1, 1935, Salt Lake City, Utah to James Anglum Nunley and Jessie Dorathell Smith Nunley. His parents had four children Bob (Ruth), Sharlene (Erland Reber), Jim (Joann) and Frank. Bob grew up with great support from his Smith Aunts and Uncles along with his parents. He enjoyed school and excelled in sports. He graduated 1953 from West High School, Salt Lake City, Utah. He served as the Jr. Class President, active in athletics varisty basketball (Utah All State Basketball athlete), baseball and track and field. He married young shy of his 20th birthday to the beautiful Ruth Ellen Putscher. Their wedding date was Oct. 6, 1955. Later they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple, May 10, 1977. This year would have been their 68th wedding anniversary. Bob and Ruth have four children Robert Jr. (Loralee), Cheryise (David Simar) - both deceased, Angie (Mafulu Toailoa), Michael Paul (Nicolle), eleven grandchildren: Robert Spencer (Amanda), Jolynn, Ryan, John Russell, Braden (Chelsea) Simar, Malilimago Toailoa, Melia Toailoa, Nicholas, Evan. Six great-grand children: Kate, Ella, Anna and William Nunley, Lennox and Roxy Word. Bob and Ruth enjoyed traveling the world together throughout the United States and Internationally. Bob enjoyed coaching his four children during their lives growing up, taking family trips, exposing his children to museums, sporting events and family reunions. He enjoyed most sport, basketball, football, golfing, bowling, hunting, and fishing. He was hard working throughout his life providing for his family. He worked at Kennecott Copper Corporation for over 40 years, later at Amsco Windows. After retirement he cut lawns at Meadow Brook golf course for several years to stay active and enjoy a good round of golf with Uncle Billy Nunley. Later in life Bob and Ruth served a three year inner-city service mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pioneer Stake of Salt Lake City, Utah. They loved working together being missionaries and helping families. Thank you for being an example all of life of being faithful and to give service to others. Proceeded in death Parents James Anglum Nunley (Verda) and Jessie Dorathell Smith Nunley, daughter Cheryise and David Ray Simar, son-in-law. Many other Nunley/Smith relatives, uncles, aunts cousins, Putscher in-laws, and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 23rd at 6 pm at Premier Funeral Services (67 East 8000 South, Midvale, Utah). An additional viewing will be held the following day, Saturday, June 24th at 1 pm followed by a funeral service at 2pm. Both will be at the same location. Following the funeral, the interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
