I only knew him in my adulthood. I didn’t meet him until I was 18, but he’s the only grandpa I’ve ever known. I am not a grandchild, but he always treated me like one. Quite a few times I stopped with a car problem or just to have him look over a new car I was getting ready to buy. Shad would get right into it and to tell me what the problem was. My favorite memories were when he insisted on lifting it right then, and we climbed under the vehicle together for four hours, so he could teach me how to fix it. Grandpa Shad and Grandma, (I didn’t learn her actual name for years) ALWAYS wanted to be there when one of the grandkids needed it. I’ll miss his handshake man-hugs and always insisting on me trying the new flavor of pie he made this year for the family Christmas Eve party.
