Roberta "Sheila" Doreen Dugan's Obituary
Roberta “Sheila” Doreen Dugan of Avondale, Arizona passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 27, 2024 in Provo Utah.
Sheila was born May 30, 1942 in Globe Arizona to Albert and Roberta Dugan. She graduated from Ray High School and then went on to pursue her advanced degrees at Northern Arizona University where she met her sweetheart, Danny Hansen. They were married in Mesa in 1967 and raised four children. Although their marriage ended, Sheila and Danny remained close until her death. Sheila and Danny raised their children in Bloomfield, New Mexico, where she taught until her retirement in 2002. She then moved to Phoenix and continued working with special needs children in some of the toughest school districts in the city.
Of all the students she taught, the preschoolers and special needs children were always her favorite. She had a special place in her heart for the littles of the world. Sheila always said she was the best audience to her family’s concerts and musical performances. She supported her children in all their endeavors and would chat up anyone willing to visit with her. Sheila was an amazing friend who would do anything she could to help those she loved. And of course, you can’t think of Sheila without also thinking about her favorite little guy in the world – her bijon, Reilly. Oh man, how she loved that dog!
She is survived by her children: William (& Catherine) Hansen of Provo, Utah, Heidi (& Josiah) Drew of San Diego, Benjamin (& Laura) Hansen of Gilbert, Arizona, and Amanda (& Clemente) Garcia of Cedar City, Utah; her 15 grandchildren: Porter (& Haylie) Hansen, Caleb (& Chantal) Drew, Hannah (& Hunter) Drew-Griggs, Patrick (& Jessica) Hansen, Andrew Hansen, Joshua Drew, Amelia Hansen, Luke Drew, Carter Hansen, Noah Drew, and Penelope Garcia; and two great-grandchildren: Marlowe Drew-Griggs, Cole Hansen, and one on the way! Sheila was proceeded in death by her parents, Albert and Roberta, her brothers, Dennis and Mike, and her sister, Deidre.
A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held on September 3, 2024 at 10am at the LDS Church at 3307 S. Greenfield in Gilbert, Arizona. A viewing will proceed the celebration at 9am and she will be laid to rest that afternoon in Globe, Arizona.
Sheila’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Legacy of Provo and her hospice nurse (and grand-daughter, Jessica) for taking such good care of her in her final months.
