Roger McCord's Obituary
WE
By and in Loving Memory of Roger Barton McCord
Nothing’s the same as physical touch:
No life, no love, can mean as much.
But once the physical touch is there
Material is ethereal air.
No Bread, No Wine,
Else the Eucharist is not mine;
and Resurrection Serpentine.
When Sun-Schot skies toast the Whole.
Live now; die later.
- Roger (poet) McCord

Leslie,
Getting to know Roger was a singular highlight of our Butch & Sundance adventure. We have very fond memories of him staying at the house, long dinners, much red wine, & many campfire stories. What a guy. Please accept our sincere condolences. Abrazos carinos, Dan & Annie
Dear Family:
I knew Roger when he was a young man going through Basic School in the US Marine Corps.
WE were in the same Platoon.
Roger was a wonderful young man, full of life and a great marine Lt.
I cherished my friendship with Roger. He could be depended upon to perform well.
I am sure he performed well in life, and would have been an excellent mate.
He did well to make 80.
Respectfully,
Joseph A. Malley, F Co, BC 3-57
Dear Leslie and family,
I have fond memories of Roger going back to those early days in June 1957 when I joined him and about 30 others like us in a Quonset Hut that would become our home for some nine months.
He was a good man and Marine and a cheerful and caring person.
We’ll miss him.
God pour his blessings on all of you .
Semper Fi,
Bob Garcia
Leslie & Dan,
Too bad I did not know he was here in SLC while sick, and Leslie working in Wendover. I feel bad, as I would have been happy to have helped you out.
My sincere condolences to you, Leslie.
Thx much for the quick responses to my query.

Roge' and I moved "west" in 2006.
We ended up in West Wendover, Nevada, thinking we'd stay a year or two.
Roger's health started failing. His routine trips to the VA became so frequent that we decided to set him up in Salt Lake City. It's a long trip 'cross the Great Salt Flats to the hospital in Salt Lake, especially at midnight. He rotated among several healthcare facilities, while I commuted from Nevada, usually on weekends. Sure wasn't perfect, but we survived several years of it.
I still teach at West Wendover High School. We had met in NYC, mid-'80s -- magazine publishing and advertising sales. Lord, what a salesman! ...

So sorry to hear about Roger. We met in the PLC program and were in the same unit. I visited at his home over a long weekend while in our training program. We even were in the same unit in Basic School. I am attaching a couple of photos that were taken some time in 1955 or 1956.
