Ronald Albert Gary's Obituary
Ronald Albert Gary passed away peacefully at George E. Whalen Ogden Veterans Home in Harrisville Utah on March 30, 2022 at the age of 82. He was born on March 2, 1940 in Tulsa Oklahoma to Mary Milstead Gary and Richard Augustus Gary. He attended Tulsa public schools and after graduating high school enlisted in the United States Air Force. Ron was a Master Sergeant and worked in the Security and Law Enforcement Division. In August of 1964 he was selected as the Airman of the Month for his outstanding manner for which he performed his duties. He received a commendation letter from Col. E. P. Donohue, Hill AFB commander, for his ability to make sound and rapid decisions. While in the Air Force, Ron was stationed in Utah, California, Alaska, Germany, and Montana and was also a veteran of the Vietnam war. He served in the Air Force for 20 years and retired in July of 1978. Ron married Carol Harrop on June 21, 1965 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together they had three children Michael, Susan, and Steven. Later they divorced. Ron attended Weber State College and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Real Estate. He worked successfully as a real estate broker and appraiser at Wardley Better Homes and Gardens in Ogden, Utah. Ron was a big adventurer and loved trying new things. He was constantly studying and obtaining new skills. His hobbies were golfing, camping, motorcycling, and traveling the world. Ron developed a deep passion for sailing. He sailed and raced catamarans and eventually purchased an older 43‘sailboat that he restored. He followed his dream and sailed the Pacific West Coast in Southern California and Mexico for many years. Ron will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and zest for life.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother Mary Gary, his father Richard Gary, and his daughter in law Catherine Stuewer Gary.
Ron is survived by his children, Michael Gary, Steven Gary and wife Angie, Susan Stites and husband David, and his grandchildren, Jordan Gary, Brendan Gary, Devan Gary, Timothy Gary, Olivia Gary, Hayden Stites, and Kendal Stites.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on April 18, 2022 at the MTC Learning Park located at 1750 Monroe Blvd, Ogden, Utah 84401.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ronald A. Gary to the George E. Whalen Ogden Veterans Home.
