Ronald Emery Taylor

Ronald Emery Taylor, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Orem, Utah, on January 10, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on November 11, 1949, at Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, Ron was the 3rd child of Emery Antone Taylor and Helen Marbra Johnston. * A Life of Dedication and Excellence * Ron grew up in South Ogden, Utah, attending Club Heights Elementary, South Junior High, and Bonneville High School. Ron’s dad nicknamed him Ichabod, which caused some confusion in his early years when he wandered away from home and was found by a policeman who worked to reunite him with his family. Ron excelled as both a student and athlete during his schooling years. An outstanding pitcher, Ron’s talent on the baseball field was showcased in many “no-hitter” games. His HS pitching records from the 1968 HS season still stand. His leadership skills shone as he served as Student Body President at both South Junior High and Bonneville High School. His siblings lovingly refer to him as “Ronnie”. Known to his friends as “Red” or “Sunshine” for his bright red hair and infectious smile, Ron’s personality left an indelible mark on everyone he met. After high school, Ron was drafted by the Atlanta Braves and played one season of professional baseball with the development team before choosing to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Italy. He spent time at both Brigham Young University and Weber State College to pursue higher education. It was during his time at Weber that he met and married the love of his life, Celeste Price, in the Ogden, Utah, LDS Temple. * Poetry By Ron * “When whispering thoughts like rays of light Streak forth upon existence, Silencing the onslaught of time, Intangible dimensions unveil and Life appears but a window pane, Dividing Eternity.” -Ron Taylor 1971 * Professional and Church Contributions * Ron and Celeste settled in Provo, Utah, as they completed their education. Ron was called to help develop PAF, the original Family History program for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, contributing to what would become a groundbreaking resource for genealogical research. While studying at BYU, he taught Italian at the Language Training Mission (LTM) and participated in the Church’s creation of the Topical Guide. As a skilled computer analyst, Ron worked for BYU’s Institutional Research and Development department, later developing software for Harmons Grocery Stores and assisting numerous small businesses with their computer needs as well as many neighbors and friends. During the final 16 years of his career, Ron served as a computer technician in multiple Alpine School District schools, where he impacted both colleagues and students with his expertise and kindness. * A Devoted Family Man * Ron and Celeste were blessed with 10 children: J. Anthony of Park City, Utah; Tiffany and Josh Barney of Lehi, Utah; Jarom and Amy of Draper, Utah; Ryan and Tara of Logan, Utah; Christopher and Darcy of Hillsboro, Oregon; Kendrick and Kristina of Millcreek, Utah; Dustin and Charissa of Highland, Utah; Shawn and Kylie of Spanish Fork, Utah; Jason and Andrea of Banks, Oregon; and Matthew of Orem, Utah. He is the proud grandfather of 27 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, with another sweet great-granddaughter on the way. Ron coached and supported many of his children in youth sports and scouting activities. He enjoyed exploring the world, taking his family on numerous road trips around the western US, Canada and Mexico as well as a number of more exotic adventures to the Eastern US, England, Ireland, Spain, Guatemala, Argentina, and more. A devoted father and grandfather, he inspired his family with his love of gospel discussions, scripture study, and genealogy. * Genealogy…he was always doing it.* Ron had a lifelong passion for family history and spent countless hours researching his ancestors, amassing a database with thousands of names. He enjoyed finding connections between people, particularly when his sons brought home potential romantic interests, and always kept pen and paper nearby to record new discoveries. As an active member of the Taylor Family Association, Ron contributed research and provided valuable computer expertise for many years. * Preceded in Death and Legacy * Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Helen, and his siblings Jolene and Mark. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Celeste, and siblings Larry D. Taylor of Plano, Texas and Marilyn T. Fowers of Syracuse, Utah. Ron’s legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. * Funeral Services * A viewing and funeral service to honor Ronald Emery Taylor will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the chapel located at 155 W 1600 S, Orem, Utah. The viewing will take place from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery. Ron will be profoundly missed, but his enduring example and spirit will remain a cherished blessing to his family and friends.
