Rosalie Jacene Smith Jones' Obituary
Rosalie Jacene (Smith) Jones passed away Monday, April 7th, 2025. She was born October 14th, 1940, in Logan, Utah to Wendell Edwards Smith and Hilda Elizabeth (Wood) Smith. In 1958, she married Carrol Deloy Olsen and had a son, Lonnie Paul Olsen. She later divorced and married Donald Royal Swensen and had two more sons; Dana Frank Troy Swensen and Corey Lynn Swensen. Corey passed away shortly after his birth. Rosalie divorced and married Fred Robert Eckman and had two children, Shaunelle Rosalie Eckman and Justin Cody Layne Eckman. Justin passed away in 1992 and Fred in 2001. Rosalie divorced and later married Charles (Bob) Robert Jones, until his passing in 1985. Rosalie worked as a bartender and cocktail server in various establishments in the Salt Lake valley during the 1970s and 1980s, including the NCO Club, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed the social aspect of her work and made lifelong friends. She later worked at Discover Financial Services and then at a department store, until her retirement. She survived breast cancer for many years. Rosalie enjoyed sewing, decorating, and crocheting afghans, for which she won multiple blue ribbons in the Utah State and Salt Lake County Fairs. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Rosalie loved cats and dogs, specifically Boston Terriers. Rosalie enjoyed her retirement by tooling around town, visiting with friends and neighbors, and bringing cheese to feed to her “grand dogs.” Rosalie is survived by two sons, Lonnie and Dana, one daughter, Shaunelle, and her partner Brandon Frenette, one granddaughter, Kolbie Gayle Sloan Swensen, one sister Camille Hilda Hernandez, as well as several nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death are two brothers, Wendell Wood Smith, and Daniel Courtney Smith and one sister Madelyn Coral Miller.
A graveside ceremony will be held Saturday, April 19th at 2:00pm in the Logan City Cemetery, where Rosalie will be interred next to her parents.
