Rosmarie Deck Looser's Obituary
Rosmarie Deck Looser
Rosmarie Deck Looser passed away peacefully June 5th 2023 at the age of 88. She was born June 27, 1934 in Basel, Switzerland to Max Deck and Ida Zimmermann.
Growing up in Switzerland, her parents owned a nursery and that is where her love of growing things and arranging flowers began. She worked hard and learned so much about plants and growing things, that this is where she developed her amazing green thumb! She loved working in her gardens that included all kinds of vegetables, fruits and many varieties of flowers. She spent countless hours canning and freezing the produce from her garden and made countless healthy meals for her family. She was also very generous in sharing the bounty from her gardens with her friends and neighbors. She loved reading and enjoyed finding treasures at Deseret Industries.
At the age of 19, Rosmarie moved to London England for 2 years where she worked as a nanny and then as an aide at a hospital, hoping to improve her English. Shortly after returning home to Switzerland, she met the LDS missionaries, and her heart just knew that what they were teaching her was true. Going against her family’s wishes, she was baptized within a few weeks. Exactly 1 year later, she began serving as an LDS missionary in the Swiss-Austria mission.
She married and was sealed to Jacob Looser on May 21, 1960 in the Swiss LDS Temple. Shortly thereafter, they immigrated to America. They moved to Salt Lake City and later to Midvale where they built their life together and raised their 5 children. They have also lived in North Ogden, Harrisville, Syracuse and West Point, Utah.
Rosmarie was devoted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She loved the temple and served as an ordinance worker for many years. She and Jacob served 3 Temple missions together in Switzerland and Germany. She was also very dedicated and passionate about doing family history work. She researched and found over 23,000 ancestors and worked tirelessly to ensure that their temple work was completed.
Rosmarie will be remembered for her Christ-like love and desire to serve everyone around her. She was kind, compassionate, and brave and was always finding ways to serve and help others. In the last 3 years of her life, as she struggled with Macular Degeneration and was unable to see well, using a loom, she knitted over 620 scarves that were donated to homeless shelters throughout the area.
Rosmarie will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years-who recently passed away on Feb. 21, 2023, and her brother Heinrich Deck. She is survived by her sister Ericka Deck Banziger, and 5 children: Mark (Vicky) Looser, Bernice (Brian) Moser, Christine (David) Taylor, Rebecca (Scott) Harris and Daniel (Mary) Loeser. She has 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, with one more on the way!
Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, June 10, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 800 North 3290 West, West Point, Utah with a viewing at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be 3:30 pm, the same day at Redwood Road Memorial Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
