Ross Dahl Russell's Obituary
Ross Dahl Russell born June 17, 1934 to Elmer and Emma Russell in SLC. He passed peacefully from this earthy existence March 1, 2015 at the age of 80 due to heart failure.
Russ attained the rank of Eagle Scout and went on to earn four Palms to add to his Eagle. He graduated from West High School and soon after joined the US Air force to serve his Country. Russ served 4 honorable years with two of those being stationed in Japan. Russ was honorably discharged and soon after returning home he married Beverly Katwyk on March 30, 1957. He and Beverly were married 40 years until her unexpected death in a car accident in 1997. Russ never wanted to remarry he said he could never find a lady as great as the one he had. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple August 20, 1998, one year after her death. Russ and Bev worked together as they started their own business, Russell’s Beauty Salon. It stayed open for over 40 years where countless shampoo sets were given with much love.
Russ and Bev had two children, Debbie (Ron) Deklerk and Mike (Pam) Russell. Russ had 7 grandchildren: Britney, Ashley, Ty, Nicole, Jake, Cody and Abigail. He also had 2 “adopted” grandchildren Ryan and Sydney that he loved as his own. Russ loved his children and grandchildren more than anything. He is also survived by his sister Jill (Bob) Davis of Ogden Utah and several nieces and nephews.
He was a kind and gentle man that has shown his family a great example of how to live and love. Rarely was Russ seen without a big smile and loved to tease everyone to brighten their day and make them laugh. Russ loved to hunt and fish in the mountains of Utah. He especially loved to chase the mighty Mule Deer buck. Many of those bucks fell to Russ being a crack shot. He passed that love of the outdoors on to his son and grandsons whom remember him every time they are out doing what they love.
A viewing for family and friends will be held Saturday March 7, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the LDS Church at 1050 E. 10600 S., Sandy, Utah. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the SLC Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife and eternal companion.
