Ruth Nadine Wheeler Grant's Obituary
Ruth Grant
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Ruth Nadine Wheeler Grant graduated from this life, age 87, on August 4, 2022, due to causes incident to age.
She was born November 6, 1934, in Ogden, Utah to Frederick and Edith Bowman Wheeler. She graduated from Ogden High School, attended Weber College, and obtained an education degree from Utah State University. In 1955, while at Utah State, she married Leland (Lee) Cantwell Grant in the Logan temple. One year later the first of eight children was born. Ruth was an amazing mother to a large family, continually sacrificing and improvising. In addition to managing the household and being the DIY repair person of the house, she was our cheerleader, motivator, spiritual leader and peacemaker. Later, with half the kids still at home, she went back to Weber State to obtain her teaching certificate for special needs education.
Everyone who knew Ruth enjoyed her kindness and positivity. She had a broad and reaching impact on people through her family, life, career as an educator and service in her church and community. Ruth had enormous capacities of faith, patience, and love. She was extremely creative as can be attested by her interest in art and her beautiful paintings.
Ruth had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ, His power and His teachings. Within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many capacities, including as Relief Society President, a teaching assignment in Jilin, China and later as a missionary in the Tacoma Washington Mission. Ruth also had a passion and tremendous skills for family history research. She served two short-term missions at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
She and Lee spent most of their lives in Pleasant View, Utah. After retirement, they moved to Farr West before finishing their final years together in North Ogden.
Ruth is survived by her eight children: Devin, Gary (Gina), Jeanine (Clayton), Lynnelle (Chad), Wendy (Mark), Casey (Renee), Peggy (Ken) and Ryan; her sister Carol Clifton, 26 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lee in 2014, her parents, Frederick and Edith Wheeler, her siblings Fred, Lucille, Erma, Ernest, Harold, Ray, Wayne and RaNae; and her grandsons Brock, Kyle, James, Benjamin and Michael.
Please join us on August 20, 2022, at 3PM, for a Celebration of Life service for Ruth at the church on 1401 Country Hills Drive, Ogden Utah in the Relief Society room (direction signs will be posted). A family graveside service will be held separately that day.
