Ruth Marjorie Nelson's Obituary
Ruth Majorie Nelson, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, devoted church member and loving friend passed away peacefully in her home following a short illness on February 25, 2024.
Ruth was born in Ogden, Utah July 15, 1928, to Lawrence Frederick Paulson and Alta Julia Hampton. She graduated from Ogden High School and worked as a secretary. She first met Glen Boyd Nelson when she was in junior high, and he was in high school. After Glen completed his military service and graduated from college, they dated for a year and were married civilly in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 17, 1952.
Ruth was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in Relief Society presidencies, Primary, Young Women and Nursery. She and Glen served a mission at the Temple Square Visitor Center and helped open the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. They also served for six years doing family extraction work. Her greatest calling was that of wife and mother. She focused on her family and made each member feel important and loved. She was known for her outstanding cooking and family favorites were her chocolate cake, rice pudding, ham and celery sandwiches and hamburger soup. She loved sending little notes in the mail and grandchildren often received cards with a few dollars tucked in. She always felt that doing the little things was what gave life its meaning and brought her great joy.
Survived by her children, Kimball Nelson, Kris Szelag (David), Kara Shaw, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, 8 siblings, husband, Glen Boyd Nelson, son, Kevin Nelson, and granddaughter, Kathrynn Shaw.
