Sabrina "Brink" Carmel Ulibarri's Obituary
Sabrina “Brink” Carmel Ulibarri passed away on April 2, 2024. Sabrina was born on April 20, 1969 to Jose (Joe) Trinidad Ulibarri and Rosa Gallegos Ulibarri (later Williams), both of whom preceded her in death (as did her step-father Anthony “Chief” Williams). Sabrina had two older siblings, Cynthia and Rodney (Beverly Ann) and nephew Jermiah who also preceded her in death. Sabrina is survived by her older brother Kelly Joe Michael of Salt Lake City, UT and younger brother Joshua Estevan (Stormie Sanchez) of Phoenix, AZ along with many nephews and nieces: Kevin, Haley, Joe, Talia, Tawny, Tessa, Anikin and Isobel. Sabrina was born in Salt Lake City and faced her young adult years in Kearns, where she graduated from Kearns High. She later attended Salt Lake Community College and graduated with her associate degree. For many years Sabrina lived a life of service, first with the United States Air Force; later she worked at the Utah Highway Patrol, then was an In-Service training Secretary with the Utah Police Academy, a 911 Dispatcher with Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communication Center, and later a 911 Emergency Police Dispatcher in Alexandria, VA. Sabrina was fiercely loyal and stood up for the people who stood up for her and she willingly aligned herself with the underdogs in and outside her family. Often, she provided a refuge for people who needed one. Her mother’s covid-death in 2020 left her heartbroken, regretful, and lonely and after Rose’s death Sabrina’s smile never quite brightened and her spirit never quite lifted as high as it once was. This is true even as she kept up with her favorite sugary sweets. Politics and government would fill some of that void, but she lamented the violence and divisiveness MAGA and Trump Republicanism brought to her state and country. She loved to hear stories from her nieces and nephews, would attentively listen, and she was well-known for her constant questions about their life, one after the other. Her laughter and her smile could control a room. It brought a smile to many faces when she bought her nephews and nieces their first catcher’s gear, their fastest remote car, or their favorite doll; and just before she died and as she believed she would get better, she was bargaining by telling her brothers she was going to appreciate everyone just a little bit more. She was so proud of her little brother Joshua and lived to talk about his latest campaigns. In her last year, Sabrina really appreciated time with Kelly and help from cousin-Bobbie. There will be no immediate services, but her brothers are planning a midsummer gathering to celebrate her life.
