Samantha Jane Spencer's Obituary
Samantha Jane Spencer graced us with her presence on September 28th, 2007.
She came into this world on her terms not giving her parents much notice. Little did we know how much our lives were going to change because of her.
Samantha had challenges from the start. At 8 months old, her family got an official diagnosis. This is when they learned her whole life was going to look completely different from others around her.
Samantha knew what challenges were, as she had many. Samantha was put on hospice care in June 2013 at 5 years old. At this time she was given just a few weeks to live. But Samantha had other plans. She was on hospice service for 10 1/2 years, which introduced us to her nurse, Margaret. Samantha kept defying the odds and decided she was going to do things her way.
Her physical limitations did not stop her. For a girl who never spoke a word, she spoke volumes in the most meaningful ways. For a girl that never walked a step, she climbed the biggest mountains.
She was known for having the best Halloween costumes that her mom would build around her wheelchair each year. But more importantly she was known for the joy she brought to others with her infectious smile. She opened doors to friendships all across the world by just being herself.
Samantha passed away on January 1st, 2024 wrapped in the arms of her parents, Chris and Kirstin Spencer. She was welcomed to her Heavenly home, by her grandma, who had been patiently waiting for her.
Her infectious smile would light up a room. Samantha calmed your soul and brought peace wherever she was. And what an amazing legacy that is.
Samantha is survived by her parents, Chris and Kirstin Spencer and her 3 sisters, Leah, Allison and Victoria. She is preceded in death by her grandma, Colleen Anderson and her uncle, Lynn Christopherson.
Many thanks to all the wonderful staff at Intermountain Homecare and Hospice for the valiant and steadfast care Samantha received for over 10 years. Most importantly to her nurse, Margaret who has been our rock for over a decade.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Timp View 3rd Ward Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 865 West 1000 North, Orem, Utah with a viewing prior to services at the church from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. Interment at the Orem City Cemetery.
