Scott always had a plan. And if you didn't, he was already three steps ahead working one out. He held things together without making a big deal of it. Whenever something went wrong, he'd just look at you and say relax, I'll handle it. And he always did. You never had to ask how. You just knew it was going to get handled.
I met Scott at Tandem Labs in 2006 when I went on a lab tour and we hit it off right away. He was working hard, fixing an instrument, and when I was introduced he dropped his tools and said, “Let’s chat.” That was Scott in a nutshell. He always expressed a sincere interest in his fellow mankind when you could get a word in edgewise! A lifelong friend from the get-go.

He told me more than once that I was a good father. Coming from Scott that landed differently than it would from anyone else. I'll carry that one with me for a long time.
Scott and I went to the gun range together in Honey Island Mississippi in June 2025. We were terrible. So bad that one of the guys watching us said "looks like you're not eating duck tonight, you're eating hotdogs." Scott thought that was just as funny as I did. Two guys, zero ducks, and a story I'll keep forever.
