I met Scott from a close friend of mine Dave Allison. Dave, My Father and myself always talked about fishing, cigars and life. Dave then introduced me to Scott over the phone. My Father and I owned a few cigar shops at the time so we supplied the crew out west with fishing smokes! The coolest talks were usually after Scott and Dave had a fishing trip i would get a couple photos sent, a few texts and fun calls catching up. Scott was always positive, happy and fun to just talk to. Scotty Miss you Buddy will have a few cigars in your honor from here on. My condolences to the Family you guys had a Great Dad and Husband. Stay Strong. God Bless you all.

I came to know Scott through his work with Trout Unlimited and the coordination with the Forest Service on the Mill Creek Bonneville Cutthroat Trout Restoration Project and his state-wide efforts. He assisted in rallying help to remove non-native fish and restock native cutthroat trout and in the replacement of the boardwalk, found just below the winter gate, in Mill Creek. He was always supportive and encouraging, recognizing that more could be accomplished by working together than going at things alone.
Scott was also my neighbor. He always had a happy smile and a kind word even amidst barking dogs. The last time I sat on his back deck with him, he expressed his gratitude for life, his experiences and his family. What an example he provided. He will certainly be missed.

Scott was a true Utah Fly Fishing Hall of Famer. He did so much on behalf of himself and trout unlimted in assisting me with many projects with the division of wildlife. I’ll just mention a couple; he was instrumental in getting the trout in the classroom going. I loved being able to attend with him and going to his wife Barbara‘s class and sharing our passion of fish, what to do and what not to do and being able to visit with the young up-and-coming anglers. Scott and Barbara both were great with getting TIC up and running. He also talked me into getting two of my daughters signed up for Trout Camp, which they absolutely loved and was the impetus behind my daughter, becoming one of my fishing buddies.
Scott was also very helpful with the Bonneville cutthroat trout restoration project in Mill Creek. I loved working with him and many of the Stonefly and TU members on that and many other projects.
Scott was so giving. I have a few items in my fishing collection because of him, without asking and him just volunteering and giving of items and things here this will help or you need this… It’s fun when I’m fishing now and into the future that I can always be reminded of and have a piece of Scott with me.

I loved Scott like a brother. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He truly lived by the 'live by the dry fly, die by the dry fly' code—you couldn't pay him to throw a nymph! Enjoying a steak, a cigar, and a good Scotch after a day on the river will forever remind me of the laughs we shared.

He was the ultimate model of what a father, friend, and colleague should be. Even during his toughest struggle, he kept apologizing to me for letting the Expo down; his only thoughts were of others. He desperately wanted to make it through the holidays for his family, at peace with the wonderfully full life he had lived.

Cheers to a great man and a legendary friend. God bless you, Scott.

I was introduced to Scott at an ASMS Conference in the early 2000’s. This unexpected introduction revealed two Navy Veterans, and two people who worked for Big Pharma servicing LC/MS systems.
We chatted for a while sharing “war” stories and exchanging contact details. This was the beginning of a 20 year friendship that allowed us to work together on several projects and took us to points across the country.
It was never really work, it was fun. Scott had a can-do spirit along with an energy and enthusiasm that was infectious. It didn’t matter what he needed to do, or where it was, I was always in. Whether it was packing up an entire lab in Woburn, MA, or packing up and shipping two complete LC/MS systems to France, we worked together to find the best solution and plan. It was never work, it was fun!!
We worked together on many other things which mainly centered around supporting his lab in Salt Lake City and later Colorado Springs. We spoke often which amounted to everyday or every other day.
Sometimes it was venting, and sometimes it was a pep talk. Sometimes it was sharing Instrument problems looking for a fresh idea for what to do next. Through his treatment and Dr. appointments this year, he texted and called me whenever he had time. Today as I write this I am still in shock and feel a great sense of loss as if a family member is gone.
RIP my friend! I think of you often and miss you every day.

Great 15 years knowing Scott and working with him in Trout Unlimited.
Working with the DWR to restore native Bonneville Cutthroat in Mill Creek Canyon. Doing River & Stream Cleanups together. Raising money for TU at the Wasatch Fly Fishing Expo. Teaching youth fly fishing & fly tying at the annual Utah Youth Trout Camp .I only got o fish with him a couple times was hoping to do some spey fishing, but it never came together.
Thanks to Scott and his family from the Stonefly Society chapter of Trout Unlimited for allowing us to share him for a good while.
I also heard about a Boatload of guys wearing kilts at the Utah Single Fly Competition on the Green - Maybe it is better I did not witness that!

I first met Scott when I joined Tandem in 2012. He was working on a 4000 MS, doing what he always did best—keeping the instruments running and helping others succeed.
During my five years at Tandem, Scott provided tremendous support, both technically and emotionally. Knowing he was there gave me confidence that any instrument issue could be solved, allowing me to focus on the challenging projects and our clients’ needs.
I still remember the times he would call me “Princess Aihua” while fixing an instrument that had been causing me so much stress. His humor, kindness, and willingness to help made even the most difficult days a little easier.
It feels like just yesterday.
Scott, thank you for everything you did for me and for so many others. May you rest peacefully in another world. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
