Sharon Huhl Henderson's Obituary
Sharon Huhl Henderson, AKA “Mom”, “Grandma Sharon”, “Grandma Louise” and great friend passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Sharon was born February 17, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carl William Huhl and Claire Ardell Foulger who have preceded her in death. Sharon has 2 sisters, Lois Ann London, and Janet Lorraine Schiller.
Sharon was a precocious child, full of energy with a great sense of humor. She was bright and intelligent and went on to become a favorite Kindergarten teacher. Parents would do anything to get their children into her class. “Mrs. Henderson" spent many hours out of school preparing and planning for her classes. Many times, her own children would come home to find her on her bed surrounded with schoolwork. She would spend hours coloring her visual aids for the children in her care. Nothing was too much trouble.
Sharon attended three Elementary Schools, Uintah, Washington, and Edgehill Chapel. She attended Roosevelt Junior High and East High School where she graduated with Honors. She then attended her first year at the University of Utah, her second year at BYU and then back to the University of Utah to complete her education where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education (with Honors). In September of 1960 she started her first teaching job at Riley Elementary in Salt Lake City. She went on to teach at Oak Hills Elementary and Washington Elementary in Bountiful. It wasn’t until September of 1969, she found her ‘home’, teaching at Hannah Holbrook Elementary in Bountiful where she taught until she retired in 2002.
She was married to Paul E Henderson Jr who has preceded her in death. She has 5 children, Mark (Anne) Henderson, Tracie Lee, Carl (Susan) Henderson, Brad (Tiffany) Henderson and Heidi Henderson. Her 5 children, 16 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren brought her much joy. Sharon loved it when her Children, Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren came to visit, and it was obvious she loved them all dearly.
Sharon loved music, in particular singing and was part of the Acapella Choir at East High. She often accompanied the children at church and spent many years playing the piano for the Primary children. When looking through her belongings from school, we found many children’s musical instruments she had used in class. In her later years she took up her love of music again and began having piano lessons and even did a piano recital which terrified her.
Please join us in remembering her life at her funeral service to be held March 16th at 11am with a Viewing beginning at 9:30am. The service will be held at the Oak Hills Ward; 455 South 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah 84010. She will be laid to rest next to her parents in the Salt Lake Cemetery following the service.
