Sharon Jill Mathias' Obituary
Born September 7th 1939
At St. Marks hospital in Salt Lake City Utah.
She was the youngest of five in her family born to parents Samuel Harold Watson and Olga Neoma Hansen Watson.
Her siblings are Harold J. Watson, Jenny Ruth Watson Brown Mounteer (Ernie Mounteer) Garry Kay Watson (Carol) and Shirley Jean Watson Wickens (Kent Wickens)
She residided in Garfield Utah and later moved to Magna. She graduated from Cyprus High School in 1957. She was a member of the Pep Club. She always loved marching bands in the parades. She would tear up when she heard them.
She met Clifton LaMar Cook on State Street. He helped her open her car door because it was stuck. They married in May of 1960. She worked at Litton Industries. They then moved to American Fork where they welcomed their first daughter Colette Cook Uhrhan (Kevin). They lived in Lehi and then Granger where they welcomed their daughter Kelly Joy Cook Wayman and son Randy Duane Cook (Kimberly). They moved to Bozeman/Belgrade Montana raising pigs and horses. This is where she wrote many songs. They moved to Tooele, Utah, and later moved back to Granger, Utah.
They were married 17 years. She later married Kent (Skip) Mathias, and added his four children to our family, Mark, Jamie, Kevin and Kelly. They have been married for 48 plus years.
Together they have 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, with one more due in October 2026, and 1 great great grandchild with another one due in December 2026.
Her first jobs were babysitting, often her nieces and nephews who many have shared, she was one of their favorite Aunts. She was a life guard at Garfield swimming pool. She worked at Salt Air at the Great Salt Lake, for First Security, for the Appeals Court in the Unemployment Office. She was the Immunization Secretary ordering all Immunizations for the State of Utah. She worked for the Commander in the Salt Lake Entrance Processing Station. She received several awards and letters for her outstanding performance.
She wrote many many songs and sang them daily. She was a Masterful piano and accordion player. She played guitar and even played drum beats with her hands and drum sticks.
She was an expert seamstress making and sharing with those unable to purchase. Night gowns, baby clothes, recieving blankets. She even made matching clothes for her children. She love to sing dance and did the best mashed potato, twist and bop steps.
Her and her husband Skip had an amazing floral and vegetable garden, sharing their produce with everyone. She loved to fish in the streams up Millcreek Canyon and in the High Uintas.
She would feed everyone who visited. Sharon's junk she would call it. The best macaroni and potato salads, as well as pulled pork that she simmered all day.
