My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. President Murphy was such a kind and loving man. I so appreciated how he took me in as part of the mission family when Robert Case and I were married. I felt like one of your missionaries! He is a great man and will be missed. What a blessing it is to have the knowledge of the gospel and eternal families.
Sincerely,
Leslie Brock (formerly Case)
Our hearts are with all of the Murphy family. And we feel very fortunate to have been among the many who were blessed by their kindnesses, examples, and giving natures. Sheldon was the patriarch of a great clan. We know his legacy is living on with his wonderful children and their families. Just grateful that our paths crossed in such meaningful ways! His was a life that mentored ours (and others) and will be very easy to celebrate! Our love,
Dave and Mary Lynn Robertson
The McNall family(Mike & Sue, Debbi, Janet, Scott & Chip and Jim & Nancy Campbell share in celebrating the marvelous and full life Sheldon lived. He left behind a huge legacy in his posterity and his books and his family history work. Joe, Mike and Debbi, and I first met Sheldon and LaWynn in the New Brunswick Ward in 1965. We were converts from the 1964 World's Fair in Flushing, L.I., NY. The Murphy and McNall children grew up together. Sheldon touched all our lives because of his expertise in so many areas, but mostly because he had a radiant testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ that reflected in his countenance and in all that he did. We continue to count our blessings because of Sheldon and LaWynn's influence for good to our McNall family. I am sure Joe McNall was waiting with open arms to continue the Lord's work together on the other side of the veil.
I remember being invited over for dinner when Sheldon and his family lived in CT. Back in the late 1990's, I was investigating the church....and had been for some time. What I thought was a nice little dinner invite turned into being a big dinner focused on providing me with many testimonies from the many people in attendance, in an effort to move me closer to baptism.
I'll be honest, while it caught me off guard and I was a little annoyed at the situation at the time, Sheldon was right. The evening did provide me with many strong testimonies to ponder and another opportunity as an investigator to strongly feel the Spirit of the Lord. It did help push me closer to baptism and I was happy to talk to Sheldon on my baptism day and share that with him. He was one of a kind. A great man and friend.
Murphy family,
President Murphy was an incredible mission president, and a great influence in my life. Serving in the MBC during a portion of his tenure was a blessing, and something I remember fondly.
You certainly know this, but his reach and influence were and still are exponential. Not only those he touched directly, and not just those of us who've become better because of him, but through his personal ministry, and those who served with him, the impact and influence is incalculable.
I love that you're having a "Celebration of Life"- what an apt title for what will no doubt be just that- a celebration. Though I live in Utah, I'm unable to attend as I'll be out of town, but please know that my thoughts and prayers have been with you as a family since I first heard of President's passing, and I know the proceedings will be wonderful.
Um abraco do ex-Elder Handy!

Dear Lawynn and family:
I am saddened to learn of Sheldon's passing, although I recognize the positive side of such a blessing. We first met in graduate school and Sheldon has been proactive in maintaining contact through the years. We enjoyed your family visit to our home in Rochester, NY when the children were still young and a visit to your home in New Jersey when our ward boys came for a regional basketball tournament in your ward building next door to your home. I also remember Sheldon picking me up and transporting me to your stake conference in Connecticut when I was assigned to visit there. You have been and certainly still are an exceptional family. Barbara and I send our condolences and prayers that your memories will be happy and your futures will continue to be blessed.

It is with mixed emotions we learn of the death of our beloved friend. We first met Sheldon and LaWynn at BYU in 1962 as we both were in Engineering. This friendship has grown over the past 50 years even though we have seen each over only infrequently. Their example of faith, courage and obedience has been a great strength to us as we have tried to keep in touch both directly and indirectly. We have long ago learned that we do not greive for them but for us. We know that Sheldon is now freed to accomplish all he desires to do to build the Kingdom and continue to counsel his family as we are taught by scripture he is able to do. (D&C 128: 15,18) We send our love to LaWynn and the family. Lynn&Sharon Blake
